Stay in touch as we celebrate Washington Youth Garden's 50th anniversary. Enjoy our updates and insights from FONA, the U.S. National Arboretum, and WYG.
Celebrating Together
Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating Washington Youth Garden's 50th anniversary last week! We are extremely grateful to the hundreds of people attended our celebrations. We honored those who made the garden what it is today and looked ahead to the next 50 years.
At both the Birthday Party and Evening Benefit, we met participants from the past five decades and shared stories of how the garden has changed since its inception in 1971.

We also introduced new people of all ages to the youth garden, played games in the garden, and shared about our current education programs.
Most importantly, we shared our vision for what the next 50 years of garden-based education in Washington Youth Garden will look like, starting with our plans to redesign the space.

Watch our new WYG anniversary video and see the incredible impact of this program.

Event Supporters
Thank you to all the sponsors and donors who made our WYG 50th anniversary celebrations a success! Special thanks to Peggy Strand for sponsoring the Washington Youth Garden film.

We are also grateful for the in-kind support from our neighbors at Other Half Brewing and Supreme Core Cider who provided locally-brewed beer and cider. Finally, thank you to East of the River Steelband for providing fantastic music!

Eagle Update
Takoda officially fledged this past weekend! Having taken this leap of faith out of the nest and into the skies, Takoda is now considered an immature eagle, rather than an eaglet.

Correction: Last week's newsletter stated planting begonias might help combat Japanese beetles, when it should have said geraniums. Here's the complete article from the Agriculture Research Service.
The Arboretum is open every day from 8 AM to 5 PM except December 25th. Some buildings and collections remain closed to ensure visitor and staff safety.
