Our mission and mantra is to celebrate, inspire, and support you — our neighbors, homeowners, and friends. Your commitment to Habitat means you're part of a vibrant community united by a single grand scheme: bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. We simply can't thank you enough for being an integral part of this journey.

Meet Aisha & Family

Meet Aisha and family! Aisha has known Bloomington since second grade and her childhood memories are tightly woven around this familiar place. She shares her life with her children, Samaria (19), Ava (18). Amahd (15), and Jordan (9). Through her story, Aisha not only pays tribute to her own experiences but also aims to inspire others to embrace the journey of self-discovery and the timeless pull of home.

Aisha has always aspired to become a homeowner—the first in her family to do so—and she envisioned accomplishing this through the Habitat program.

“I get the unique opportunity to put in the work for my own house,” She recalls. “I get to know my neighbors. I get to teach my children how to work for something that you really want.”

Aisha’s home is generously sponsored by The Sonneborn Family.

Because Of You Awards & Appreciation Event

It takes a village to build community, and we are so very grateful for your volunteer support—for building with us, sharing your ideas and kindness, and being the backbone of the work that we do.

Our Because of You event was held on Tuesday, April 23 during National Volunteer Week. Just last year, 1110 individuals gave 18,525 hours of their time to support affordable homeownership in our community. With the value of a volunteer hour estimated as $28.84, your volunteerism saved our organization over $534,000 just last year. Your dedication inspires us.

Thank you to the FAR Center for being our gracious hosts the evening and to Callie & Company for the balloon display, Aver’s Pizza North, Baked! Of Bloomington, BuffaLouie’s, Chocolate Moose, Chop Shop, Crumble Coffee and Bakery, Ditto Ice, Fresh Thyme West, Jiffy Treat Ellettsville, Lennie’s, Mother Bears Pizza, and Popkorn Kernels with a Twist.

Homeownership Program Application Window & Upcoming Information Meetings

Open application window: August 5 to August 16, 2024

We believe in the power of affordable homeownership to change lives from the individual to the collective community and actively work to remove financial barriers and social inequalities to provide access to affordable homeownership opportunities for everyone.

To be eligible for the Habitat Homeownership Program, applicants must have lived and/or worked in Monroe County for a minimum of one year. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate a need for housing, an ability to pay an affordable monthly mortgage, and a willingness to partner—a commitment we call “sweat equity.”

To apply for a Habitat home, all applicants and adults aged 18 or older who will live in the home must attend a Homeowner Information Meeting. Meetings are offered in both English and Spanish. Applications are distributed at these meetings and you can attend any of the scheduled sessions:

  • Saturday, June 1, 2024 // Monroe County Public Library Downtown
  • Monday, July 1, 2024 // Monroe County Public Library Downtown
  • Thursday, August 1, 2024 // Banneker Community Center

These meetings are free and cover everything you need to know about becoming a homeowner with Habitat. We recommend that you register to attend a Homeowner Information Meeting at by clicking here.

Wow!

Whitney's infectious smile and personality brings joy to everyone around her and we have no doubt that this new home will be filled with that same warmth and happiness.
