ACAF Specifications Committee Visits NCAT


In April, ACAF's Specifications Committee took a two-day trip to Auburn, Alabama, to explore the cutting-edge facilities of the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT).


The visit included a meeting with FDOT and more than 30 individuals from various ACAF producer members. It also included tours of the NCAT laboratory and the test track, showcasing industry innovation and research.

Hurricane Ian will always represent a dark chapter for the Sunshine State, but the response to the disaster, including the rapid restoration of the Sanibel Causeway, was positively uplifting, literally and figuratively. Working together, the Florida Department of Transportation, a joint venture between Jacksonville-based Superior Construction and Miami-based The de Moya Group and other stakeholders completed the massive project ahead of schedule, reconnecting residents of Sanibel and Captiva islands with the rest of the state.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) joined local and national transportation partners, law enforcement agencies, construction crews, and communities in recognizing National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 15-19.)

FDOT Hosts Construction Career Days for High School Students in Northwest Florida


Around 1,300 junior and senior high school students spent two days getting an up-close look at what life after high school could look like at the Florida Department of Transportation’s Northwest Florida Construction Career Days.

I-10 Construction on U.S. 29, Nine Mile Road Begins in Pensacola


The Florida Department of Transportation has begun work on two major projects at Exit 10 (at U.S. Highway 29) and Exit 5 (the Nine Mile Road interchange).


The first is a massive $236 million project to build a redesigned Exit 10 interchange that will eliminate the left-hand merges of the current on-ramps and make I-10 six lanes with three lanes in each direction.

Could a Four-Day Week Work in the Construction Industry?


For a long time, working for four days a week instead of five but with no reduction in pay sounded unachievable idea in pretty much any industry. But ever since the Covid-19 pandemic upended the way in which people work, there has been a groundswell of opinion that says it’s not only achievable but desirable.

Ajax Hosts Second Annual Construction Hike for Hope


On Saturday, April 20, Ajax, in partnership with industry peers and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, put on the Second Annual Construction Hike for Hope. At locations in Jacksonville, Panama City, Tampa, Fort Myers, Pembroke Pines, and Orlando, the construction industry banded together to talk about the epidemic that is suicide in construction.


The outpouring of commitment and dedication by those involved shines a light on a dark place, and allows us to break the stigma that we cannot discuss our mental health. Ajax hopes to see everyone again next year!
