President's Message

by Max Duplant, CPA

August in Dallas… The mercury is rising, swimming pools are filled with kids getting in that last escape from the heat before school starts, and TXCPA Dallas is hot at work planning a sensational year for our members.

We have a couple of super networking events coming up this month that you won’t want to miss. If you’d like to take a break from work and the heat and enjoy some down time in the cool surroundings of Blue Mesa Grill, we hope you’ll join us for our August Thirsty Thursday event on August 17. These social hours are one of the Chapter’s most popular activities. Nothing beats building new relationships and having conversations with old friends accompanied by a nice beverage and appetizers! If you’ve never attended one of our monthly social events, there’s no time like the present. We hope to see you there! And if you’re an adventurous young professional, the Young Professionals Group is holding a happy hour this month that includes hatchet throwing. Join the group at Whiskey Hatchet in Deep Ellum on August 24. There is a 19-person limit for those throwing, so if you’d like to participate in that part of the event, register now while there’s still room. Throwing is optional, but the fun won’t be.

We hope you’ll join us, too, on August 22 at the Crescent Court for a “lunch and learn” event co-sponsored by Advisors Equity Group, Madison Insurance Group and NexPoint Advisors LP. This event offers lunch and two hours of CPE credit. Gary Kroll, Howard LLP Tax Partner, will give an informative talk on 1031 Exchanges. Registration is limited to 20 people, so sign up now.

Just a reminder that our Leadership Development Academy is still accepting applications for its 2023 term that begins later this month. If you are, or you know of, a promising accounting/financial services professional with two to five years’ experience, we encourage you, or them, to apply to be a part of this outstanding program. This year we’re partnering with former CPA-turned-teacher/speaker/author Adam Tarnow who will be teaching this year’s sessions based on the book he co-authored, The EDGE: How to Stand Out by Showing You’re All In. We’re excited about the 2023 class and look forward to your participation. Click here for more details and to download the application. The deadline for submission is Friday, August 4.

In this month when so many of us are thinking about a return to school – our own or our kids’ – it’s a good time to think about donating to the TXCPA Dallas Scholarship Fund. It’s very simple, just click here, log in and make a contribution to the future of the accounting profession. It will be so appreciated.

Until next month, stay cool!
