Nutritional Therapy for IBD is a non-profit focused on improving the lives of patients’ with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis by providing education and resources to aid the integration of evidence-based nutrition into management plans.
|
|
For a long time, it was thought that diet did not play an important role in managing IBD. Nutritional Therapy for IBD has been one of the organizations working to change that by funding research projects and creating educational content. They believe that every patient deserves the option of nutritional therapy in learning how to manage their illness. Their website has a host of information including a quarterly newsletter, clinician resources, and publications. Check out their website by clicking the button below.

IFFGD has teamed up with Dr. Miguel Saps, and created a survey to learn more about patients' experiences transitioning from pediatric to adult GI care. This transition can be difficult and confusing. We want to better understand the biggest impacts, both good and bad, that this transition has had on you or your child's illness journey.
We would love to hear from both patients and parents to learn more about the multiple perspectives surrounding this experience. We hope these responses will assist healthcare providers and patients as they go through this process in the future.
Please click the button below to complete this short survey. Your answers are confidential and will not be disclosed by IFFGD unless we are granted permission. If you have any questions please contact us at iffgd@iffgd.org.

With the start of the new year, many look for new opportunities to set new goals and increase their exercise regimen. Exercise is often touted as a way to be your best self. However this might not be the case for those living with GI conditions, especially those experiencing the symptoms of diarrhea or reflux. Though the symptoms tend to vary from person to person, some can be severe enough to impact exercise performance.
Understanding why this can happen during exercise can help you develop a plan to minimize your symptoms while still getting the benefits of regular exercise.

IFFGD’s 2023 Education and Advocacy Event is a free event to educate the community about access to healthcare and treatment and how to best advocate for yourself in the medical field. This event will be held on April 16-17, 2023.
The educational program is designed to help attendees learn more about how to receive the health care they need and deserve. Learn about topics like legislation improving patient access to care, how to contact your legislator through social media/email, how to connect with your legislators through a personal story, and information about your representatives and what they stand for.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, the space will be limited to 50 guests. If you are unable to attend in-person, please email Hayley McCorkle at hnmccorkle@iffgd.org. If you cannot attend this year's in-person event, you will also be able to email IFFGD your personal stories which will be hand delivered by IFFGD staff to Congressional Representatives on the Hill on April 17th. If you are interested in sharing your story, click here to get started. We are asking that all stories be submitted no later than Monday, April 10, 2023.

Having a functional GI or motility disorder gives you something in common with millions of other people who live with their digestive disorder every day. Living with a chronic GI disorder is a challenge. Often times people facing these challenges can feel alone.
One way to combat this is by sharing your story with the patient community. Sharing your story allows patients to connect, teach, and learn about themselves and some of the different GI experiences. The act of sharing can be an important part of the personal journey. It can even lead to self-understanding, as it helps others encounter and come to terms with the unknown future of their experiences.
Sharing your experience of living with a chronic, life-altering condition can provide a therapeutic release for you and encouragement for others who may be suffering.
To share your story with the digestive health community or view other shared stories, click the button below.

Have you ever participated in a clinical trial? Clinical trials are a critical part of learning more about illnesses and finding if new treatment options are effective. Participation in clinical studies or trials offers one way to help advance research into different medical fields including gastrointestinal (GI) disorders.
The FDA is a great resource for all things clinical trial related. They provide informational pages on the different types of clinical research, informed consent for clinical trials, and the different between clinical research and medical treatment just to name a few. Click the button below to start learning.
