Join our "Third Ward Unity in Faith: Backbone of Our Souls" artist talk Saturday, April 27, at 3 p.m. at The Collective

Whether you see it as progress or gentrification, our familiar streets and structures are constantly changing, affecting subtle and sometimes monumental lifestyle changes. How many times has the sudden absence of a local landmark caught us by surprise?

The memories surrounding every landmark are unique with each person. This is especially true in the rapidly changing Third Ward area.

Fortunately, we have people who recognize the value of preserving our memories with images of “the way we were.” Art photographers Earlie Hudnall Jr., Ray Carrington III and Tamira Collins have documented many of the small worship places in the Third Ward, as well as some of the current houses of worship shown in The Collective’s current exhibition “Third Ward Unity in Faith: Backbone of Our Souls.”

They will share some of their methods, motivation and love for preserving these memories at their artists’ talk Saturday, April 27, at 3 p.m. at The Collective.

The exhibition, which is curated by Kathleen Coleman, a fourth generation Third Ward resident, continues at The Collective through May 18.

Save the date for our upcoming FestEve! 2024 Gala at Hobby Center on Saturday, September 28, as we celebrate 37 magical years of the Community Artists’ Collective! Fest Eve is an eclectic celebration that brings together local contemporary artists, city leaders and the community to further enrich Houston’s culture! The evening will feature local works of art, performing artists, a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Proceeds of this event will go towards the development of future education, exhibition and entrepreneurship programming at the Community Artists’ Collective. More details forthcoming.
