DONATE TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY

Dear Katie,

Another month has come and gone here at MCUM and, as usual, has been full of great work that I am eager to share with you.

We have all been anxiously awaiting information as to if or how the MCCSC referendum might impact our early learning families. I am so pleased to share that we have signed a partnership agreement with MCCSC to be a referendum preschool partner. Once signed by the School Board, this means that families of 4 year-olds living within MCCSC boundaries and who are not eligible for On My Way Prek will receive discounts for their child’s tuition at the Compass Early Learning Center. Excitingly, MCCSC leadership expects partnership to include 3-year olds by early 2025. Ultimately, this is a wonderful cost savings for eligible families and should improve their access to high-quality early learning and we are thrilled. On our end, by receiving referendum support, we continue to create sustainability and financial security for our organization so we can continue to provide unmatched early learning for local families as long as our services are needed.

Last night, we held our first quarter All-Staff Meeting. The highlights included sharing strategic plan progress and departmental highlights, celebrating first quarter birthdays, hires, anniversaries, and occasions such as Social Worker Appreciation Month, and highlighting employee perks and benefits. Amidst the hustle and bustle of two very busy centers, it is impossible for us all to get together during the day, so to be able to join up at the end of a work day and share fellowship (& a delicious meal) was wonderful.

As always, I look forward to the work ahead and I am grateful for your continued support.

Donate to MCUM's Spring Campaign

To end generational poverty

March 1st kicked off MCUM's annual Spring Campaign. This campaign is crucial to providing the funding required to keep our programs afloat and continue our mission of ending generational poverty for the people we serve. We have raised $24,000 towards our $50,000 goal. You still have time to donate to our Spring Campaign or provide a bag of food to feed a Monroe County family by April 30th.

Donate to our Spring Campaign today and help us reach our goal of raising $50,000 to fund our mission of providing high-quality early learning and economic mobility mentorship to vulnerable Monroe County residents.

Disrupting Poverty Conference

Our MCUM team headed east last week to attend the Disrupting Poverty Conference hosted by our partners at EMPath. They have been enjoying workshops from experts on topics like like guaranteed income, closing the racial wealth gap, promoting economic mobility in early childhood, and housing and are feeling energized and ready to bring some best practices and ideas back home to serve our community!

Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath) is a Boston-based nonprofit that disrupts poverty through direct services, advocacy, research, and a global learning network. MCUM became a member of EMPath in order to provide industry leading economic mobility services to our Monroe County families.

Bloomington Eclipse

Our MCUM staff, teachers, and children all enjoyed a day at home to enjoy Bloomington's total solar eclipse on April 8th. Thank you to Wonderlab and First United Church for providing these eclipse glasses to our Compass Early Learning Center families.

If you need a place to recycle your glasses consider sending them to the Astronomers Without Borders Solar Glasses Recycling Campaign.

Bloomington Rotary North

Restores Little Library

Thank you to Bloomington North Rotary for installing a brand new Little Library in front of our Compass Early Learning Center! The little library is filled with an assortment of books for people to borrow or trade. We are grateful for our partnership with Bloomington Rotary and the many ways they give back to MCUM and the community at-large.
