SO excited to announce that our own Gina Hahn gave birth to her daughter just before the holiday. Here is her announcement:
I birthed this beautiful baby girl! It was a successful VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean). Maya Jordan was born on Saturday, 12/10 @11:06am. Joshua, Anthony, and I are adjusting well to life as a family of four. Maya is doing her thing: sleeping, eating, and making dirty diapers like a good baby. We had a nice and quiet holiday together.
More about the birth story...
Preface: I believe that every person should make decisions around pregnancy, labor and delivery that honors them and their wants and needs at that time in their life.
For me, a vaginal birth was important because I place a lot of value in the human body and what it is capable of (no surprise!). As a woman, I had faith and courage that my body could do this. To prepare for a VBAC, I first had to find a care team that would assess me and my previous birth story to be sure I was a candidate -- and I was! In fact, my risk for a repeat cesarean was low.
My care team included midwives, an OB, my husband, and a doula. I leaned on them a lot during my pregnancy when doubts and fears would show up. They supported me through that, and they were the best cheerleaders during Maya's birth.
As I got closer to the finish line where contractions stack closer together, leaving me a little more fatigued each time, I found this deep strength within myself to keep pushing forward. It was hard, but I knew I could do hard things. It was intense but productive. As she was born, my husband helped catch her and place her on my stomach. My team congratulated me and told me they were in awe of me. It was emotional to say the least. I did what I set out to do. I felt triumphant!
I appreciate all of your love and support during this time in my life. I will miss seeing your faces at One. for the next several weeks. I wish you all a Happy New Year!

MASSAGE AND COLDS: FUN FACTS YOU MAY NOT HAVE KNOWN
If you’re experiencing symptoms of a cold, it is always recommended to let your massage therapist know and to reschedule the appointment for a later date. Receiving massage while having a cold or receiving massage as you’re starting to “ come down with” a cold can potentially ramp up the sickness and cause it to be much more severe. This puts stress on your body and puts you at risk of being sick for longer.
Regular massage can help to boost immunity to prevent illness.

Millions have the same ‘bendy body’ disease as my daughter. Why isn’t the medical profession paying more attention?

This is a great recent article for anyone who is on an EDS journey, or knows someone who is "super stretchy" and would like to know more.
This is a topic near and dear to our hearts and a nice summary of all things related to hypermobility and where the research stands now for a syndrome that effects up to 1 in 500 people.

The Association Between Step Count and Walking Intensity
The goal of walking 10,000 steps per day is not rooted in science. Rather, it came from a clever Japanese marketing campaign in 1964, for a pedometer called the Manpo-kei: “man” meaning 10,000, “po” meaning steps, and “kei” meaning meter. Despite the origin, this number became a benchmark to achieve while walking for exercise, and it has become a focus of numerous scientific studies. Check out this article for a round-up of recent research findings that discuss the correlation of step counts and more importantly the intensity of those step counts for better health.
