Oh, Generous Father, our scripture for today wants to remind me of the temporary reality of this world. Jesus never promised us a worldly kingdom, yet I live sometimes as if this is all there is. I am reminded today that Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world. We are only here for a time, long or short, to work out our salvation by following His commandments - love of God and neighbor. Give me the grace today to be reminded that although I may strive for a life here, it is only a passing world, and my true home is to be with You, Father, Son and Spirit.
Give me the grace to remember to be “rich in the things that matter to God” and that shrouds have no pockets. I take nothing with me but my good deeds to Your eternal kingdom in heaven. I ask this of You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.
