Approved Supervision for Professionals

This training is for professionals working within organizations who provide supervised contact between Adults accused or convicted of sexual offenses and minor children. In order to allow contact with minor children, Section 5.7 of the Adult Standards requires Adults convicted of a sexual offense and in treatment, to have an Approved Supervisor. Approved Supervisors are adults who have been approved by Community Supervisions Teams to supervise contact between a client and a specified minor, victim or vulnerable adult. This training will cover the requirements within the Standards as well as best practices for professionals overseeing this contact to recognize concerning behaviors. This will also cover how to collaborate with Community Supervisions Teams for those under community supervision and/or in Offense Specific Treatment.

Training Description: Addressing criminogenic needs is critical for risk and recidivism reduction. The VASOR-2 and SOTIPS risk assessments help clinicians and community supervision professionals identify a client’s criminogenic needs when working with an adult sex offender caseload, which will then inform the client’s supervision and treatment. In this course, learners will review static and dynamic risk factors as they relate to sexual recidivism. Using the VASOR-2 and SOTIPS, learners will enhance their skills by scoring case studies to interpret risk levels. Learners will gain insight into the scoring of the assessments and how to interpret risk levels to maximize their case and treatment planning with a focus on risk reduction and enhancing protective factors. Finally, this training includes learner interaction.
