Resale pricing adjustments are based on actual sales transactions and current market conditions such as overall trends in asking prices, increase or decrease in supply, demand, and sales volume. We obtain sales pricing data from owners and operators, lenders and lessors, brokers and equipment manufacturers worldwide.

While we do review all models each quarter, frequently traded models are updated as soon as they begin to show variation from the previously published values. Stay up to date on resale pricing changes by purchasing an annual subscription.
3Q Market Overview

The market cycles are happening much quicker than they used to compared to 10 - 20 years ago. Again, we are seeing another slowdown in the market. So many factors today are influencing this market:

  • Increasing oil prices
  • Implementation of the NSA “No Surprise Act”
  • The increasing wars popping up around the Globe
  • The Uncertainty of the U.S. Economy
  • Interest Rates
  • Engine and Component overhaul costs

Speaking with brokers worldwide, they all have the same comments on buyers anticipating another downfall and thinking they can get aircraft much cheaper than advertised. Many buyers are holding off on their purchases because they are playing the “wait and see” game, with expectations of the values dropping further in their favor.

The giant elephant in the room now is the possibility of EMS operator bankruptcies and how this might impact the current market. We don’t want to jump to conclusions on this topic as it will be nothing like the Offshore Operator bankruptcies in the past years.

Market Overview
  • Pistons are still very resilient and holding strong. Asking prices are increasing slightly, as well as some sale prices.
  • Light Singles are seeing more transactions as the values are trending down for some, while the models with very few availability remain strong.
  • Light Twins are seeing slowing transactions, increasing supply, and falling asking prices. However, this is not the case for all; the Leonardo A109E Power is still very active in the market.
  • Medium Twins are also seeing slowing transactions, increasing supply, and falling asking prices. Except for the Leonardo AW109SP, Sikorsky S76C+, and S76C++ models, these models are seeing an increase in demand, which reflects the increase in sales prices.
  • Heavy Twins are still seeing improvements, supply is still shrinking, and transactions are increasing.

If by chance you are a helicopter owner or operator and are seeing something other than what we are publishing, please give me a call at 1-847-487-8258 or send me an email at jason.kmiecik@helivalues.com and I will be happy to discuss the market with you. If you have any sales you would like us to know about, I would also be happy to discuss them with you. Without your willingness to share information, we wouldn’t be here to keep the industry informed and up to date.
