JOURNAL: We keep hearing about the evils of being “woke,” revealing a backlash termed “Anti-wokeism,” that comes in the form of book-banning, forbidding the teaching of African American history, dismantling Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs from organizations, and more.

From an X thread, @absurdistwords gives a provocative definition of anti-wokeism: “Anti-Wokeism is a statement of white weakness. It insists that white people are indeed too fragile to learn about their own history. It insists that ignorance is the foundation of white society. It insists that whiteness cannot abide or survive in the presence of truth.”

Author Neil Gaiman, who is white, has this to say on wokeness: "I have decided to just sort of substitute -- I have a little thing on my computer that substitutes the word 'woke,' whenever it turns up, with just 'treating other people with respect.'"

Write your own response to the term and to these definitions. Give examples from your observations. Please send it to us if you wish.
