We are very excited to offer an new dance program at the Center! One of our outstanding part-time staff, Iliana Gonzalez has been dancing for 15 plus years! She began dancing as a little girl at the Milford Dance Center and then moved to Connecticut and danced for a studio on their competition dance team. When she began college at Bridgewater State University, she danced on the hip hop team. She has experience in many genres of dance such as hip hop, tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet, contemporary and modern. Dancing has always been an outlet for her to express herself and to keep herself motivated, and in doing this program at the Milford Youth Center, she hopes to bring that same feeling to any child who joins. Dance will be held on Mondays this month. The dates are the 9th, 23rd and 30th at 3:30. This will also be a program that requires advance sign ups and commitment!

The Youth Center’s after school program is open for Milford youth ages 8-18, free of charge, from 2:15-6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Only students registered by 1PM each day will be allowed to attend. Any forms received after 1PM, will be allowed to attend the following program day, if completed correctly. This is to ensure we have adequate time to process registrations. For more information about the program, click here. If you are interested in volunteering, please click here!

Thank you Volunteers!

This month’s gratification post is to our entire Volunteer Community! Each month we thank an individual, business and/or organization who supports our efforts but this month we would like to extend an extra thank you to all of all our amazing volunteers! We could not achieve our holiday themed events, execute our fundraisers, or run the programs we offer to our after-school members without you! As a thank you we provide a small gift to all of our volunteers this a Holiday season, a candle with the message “Thank you and Happy Holidays from the MYC!”

With the help of over 65 volunteers for this school year alone, with over 370 hours, the Milford Youth Center has been able to successfully accomplish some of the following: have the ability to write more grants to expand programming, host a fundraiser with 50 raffle items, put on an amazing haunted maze and community Halloween event, provide a Thanksgiving meal that fed over 115 children, conduct a Holiday Gift collection that helped over 130 children and their families, run countless after school programs including knitting, book club, fishing, gardening, arts and crafts, and finally provide multiple food access programs for our members and community! The Milford Youth Center would not have the opportunity to do all these things without the help of our volunteers. To help put into perspective, the hours volunteered are equivalent to approximately $11,877.00 in staffing expenses! The generosity, trust, companionship, learning, friendships, are all things that are earned not by the dollar but by the lives that our volunteers touch daily here at the Youth Center. We welcome you; we appreciate you, and we encourage you to continue to make a difference in the lives of children, but also in the lives of the Youth Center staff. Without you, we would not be able to achieve all the things we have and plan to do in the future. You are appreciated!
