The fentanyl crisis afflicting our city and our country demands that those of us in law enforcement do all in our power to shut down illegal narcotics manufacturers and suppliers and hold the traffickers accountable.
A search warrant executed recently at a Queens Village home led to the arraignment of five individuals on drugs and weapons charges after the discovery of more than 4 kilograms of fentanyl-laced cocaine and heroin and four firearms. A 10-year-old boy lived in the home.
While there is still a great deal of work that needs to be done, our efforts are helping to make a difference: Data from the NYPD and Office of the Medical Examiner shows a 30.4% reduction in overdose fatalities in Queens through mid-September compared to the same period in 2022.
The decline in overdose deaths reflects the commitment and dedication of my team and the NYPD to fighting the fentanyl and opiod epidemic that annually claims tens of thousands of lives across the country.
My top priority will always be keeping you and your loved ones safe.
In Friendship,
Melinda Katz
Queens District Attorney
