Dear Friends-
For me, there is a lot of laughing and joy in following Christ. Sometimes this puts me at odds with the traditional orthodoxy of the church, which seems to take itself very seriously.
Eugene Peterson was a Presbyterian minister who is best remembered for his translation of the Bible called The Message. Peterson said that the purpose The Message was to make the original meaning more understandable and accessible to the modern reader. Not surprisingly, some scholars reacted negatively to the “plain” way that the words of the Bible were translated. Others found his translation to breath new life into the stories they knew so well.
A quote I have treasured from Peterson shows me that the joy and laughter I experience as a Christian is shared!
The word 'Christian' means different things to different people. To one person it means a stiff, upright, inflexible way of life, colorless and unbending. To another it means a risky, surprised-filled adventure, lived tiptoe at the edge of expectation...If we get our information from the biblical material, there is no doubt that the Christian life is a dancing, leaping, daring life.

Welcome Martha Hubbard!
This weekend our Sunday service will be covered by the Rev. Martha Hubbard. As you know, Martha serves as the Regional Canon for St. Peter’s. This means that, among many other things, she is responsible for the clergy transitions for this congregation. To that end, Martha will be available following the service to answer questions about where we stand in our search for the next clergy leader for this congregation. Thank you for welcoming Martha warmly.

Anti-Racism Book Club!
As we continue the Christian work of anti-racism, join us in reading, join us in reading The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together by Heather McGhee.
“This is the book I’ve been waiting for.”—Ibram X. Kendi, #1 New York Times bestselling author of How to Be an Antiracist
Heather McGhee’s specialty is the American economy—and the mystery of why it so often fails the American public. From the financial crisis of 2008 to rising student debt to collapsing public infrastructure, she found a root problem: racism in our politics and policymaking. But not just in the most obvious indignities for people of color. Racism has costs for white people, too. It is the common denominator of our most vexing public problems, the core dysfunction of our democracy and constitutive of the spiritual and moral crises that grip us all. But how did this happen? And is there a way out?
Please join us on Tuesday, August 8th at 7PM!

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING B-SAFE!
A very special thank you to all who have supported the B-Safe efforts this summer! Unfortunately our trip to the Wayland Beach was derailed by thunderstorms, but the kids are currently enjoying watching the new Indiana Jones movie instead! We'll share more pictures soon.

Camp Brookside Returns!
With school out we held our last Brookside Tuesday last week. We’re taking a few weeks break and Camp Brookside will start on July 11th. This week IINE hosted a World Refugee Day celebration at Brookside with delicious food, lawn games for the kids, English certificates which two of our Mom’s received and various speakers whose stories were both inspirational and heart breaking. Some of the African refugees had spent up to nine years in camps before coming to the United States. Eid-Al-Adha or Feast of Sacrifice will be celebrated Thursday, June 29th. It is a very important Muslim holiday and time of celebration. New clothes, haircuts for the kids, visiting one another, group prayer and delicious food and treats. Charity is also a major component of Eid and we are very thankful to our Muslim neighbors at the Islamic Center in Wayland for a gift drive resulting in each family receiving Target gift cards giving them the funds to celebrate as they would have back home. If you’d like to help with Camp Brookside this summer, let me know. Always looking for some company on my Tuesday trips north. Happy summer to all.
Thank you,
Karen & Hansi

George’s Vacation & Visiting Clergy
Later this month my family and I will head to Martha’s Vineyard where I take a Summer Chapel called Trinity, Oak Bluffs for two weeks. You’ll be in great hands.
The first week including Sunday, July 23 our Sunday service will be covered by The Rev. Martha Hubbard. Martha, as you may remember, is our Regional Canon and handles (among many other things) congregations in transition. In addition to preaching and celebrating, Martha will be available following the service to talk about our search for a Priest-in-Charge here at St. Peter’s.
The week of Sunday, July 30 will be covered by the Rev. Skip Windsor. Skip and Kathy are on a marvelous trip to the Arctic Circle this month, so be sure to ask them about it!
I’m grateful for the time away with my family and look forward to being back with you in August!
P.S. If you're going to be on the Vineyard, I'd love to see you at Trinity!

Home Communion and Prayer
Though many of St. Peter's parishioners have returned to worshiping and receiving Holy Communion in person inside our church building, we know it is not yet safe for all of us to do so. We will continue to live-stream our services so that we may include as many as possible in our offerings of praise and thanksgiving to God.
If it is not yet safe for you to worship with us in person, and you would like to receive Holy Communion and/or a share a time of prayer at your home, please contact the Parish Office.
If you would like to schedule a time during the week for private prayer in the church, please contact the church office.
St. Peter's is committed to continuing to make our worship space safe and welcoming to all. We hope to have you back with us in person as soon as doing so is the right choice for you.
