Pastor Connection

Psalm 107:1-9, 43

O give thanks to the LORD,

for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.

Let the redeemed of the LORD say so,

those he redeemed from trouble

and gathered in from the lands,

from the east and from the west,

from the north and from the south.

Some wandered in desert wastes,

finding no way to an inhabited town;

hungry and thirsty,

their soul fainted within them.

Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,

and he delivered them from their distress;

he led them by a straight way,

until they reached an inhabited town.

Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love,

for his wonderful works to humankind.

For he satisfies the thirsty,

and the hungry he fills with good things.

Let those who are wise give heed to these things,

and consider the steadfast love of the LORD.

Church Wide Lunch

The congregation is invited to a special all-church lunch following the worship service on THIS Sunday, July 31 in Calvin Hall. Pizza and dessert will be served. During the worship that Sunday, Rev. Dr. Kivett will focus his sermon on the discernment process regarding the future of First Presbyterian Church. At the lunch there will be an opportunity for more discussion, questions, and ideas. The input of the congregation is very important in this process. Please plan to attend.

Irish Fest Fundraiser

Irish Fest will be coming to Lincoln Park, right across from the church, August 5-7. We plan to take advantage of our location and again use our parking lot as a fundraiser for the Buildings and Grounds Committee. We need volunteers to help park cars and collect the fee. Each volunteer time slot will last about 2 1/2 hours. We will need volunteers for Friday afternoon and evening, Saturday afternoon and evening, and Sunday morning. Someone will be in the hall on Sunday mornings to sign up volunteers. To volunteer you can also call Mary Mumm or Jackie Bass to pick your volunteer spot. The money will be spent for building maintenance. The Building and Grounds Committee appreciates your help.

Church (Indoor) Picnic!

First Presbyterian Deacons are planning a church picnic on August 14 after church in Fellowship Hall (picnic in the cool!). August 14 is Rev. Dr. Kivett's last Sunday with us so we will thank him for his leadership for the last few months. Deacons will provide grilled brats and hamburgers, potato salad, baked beans, fruit salad, drinks, and ice cream sundaes for dessert. Sign up on the insert in the bulletin to let us know how much meat to prepare, or click HERE to print out a form. Please mail to the church office no later than August 8.

National Night Out

This year's National Neighborhood Night Out is August 2 and the Walnut Neighborhood is already making plans. Last year we had wonderful volunteers from First Presbyterian who helped make the evening a success. We are beginning again to solicit volunteers for the event. Volunteers are needed for:

  • Set up - 4:30 pm - 8 people needed
  • Servers - 5:10-6:10 pm - 6 people needed
  • Clean-up - 8-10 people needed

(We do not need to provide all the volunteers, but we would like First Presbyterian to again be represented)

There will also be a talent show. Brush up on your jokes, songs, and dances and sign up to perform. We know we have lots of talent at First Presbyterian!

A sign-up sheet for volunteers will be in the office. Thank you!

First Wednesday Club

The First Wednesday Club will NOT be meeting this Wednesday, Aug. 3. We will resume in September. Thank you for your understanding.
