September 2023

It's hard to believe that Christmas is quickly approaching, and we're excited to spread some joy to children of our community! Last year, with your support, we were able to resume our Christmas party for children and it was a huge success. Over 2,000 children showed up and had a blast playing games, enjoying a hot meal, and even performing for each other. They also heard the story of Jesus’ birth and its importance for all of us.

This year, we're hoping to make it even merrier for them, but we need your help. With your generous donation, we can provide more food, games, and entertainment and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to make this Christmas unforgettable for these children. We’re fattening the cows to send home meat and other staples for their families to celebrate with a special family dinner. Let's come together and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most this holiday season.

Katherine in Colorado

Katherine is in Colorado for her annual visit to work with the board and see some of her family, friends and supporters. She has spent some time in Florida, but is primarily staying in Colorado and Illinois this year. She has also brought with her Christine and Bumba from our sponsorship team so they’ll be visiting some of you as well.

The three of them will be primarily visiting churches, so for those of you in the Denver area that would like to see them, they will have some limited time. In order not to run them too raged, we are setting up a schedule for friends to bring them dinner. You can bring enough for yourself and join them to visit if you would like. Please call Cindy at 303.847.9522 to get on the schedule.

Also watch your email for an open house in the Denver area being planned for October 21 or 22.

For the children of Uganda, Christmas is not much different than any other day, with the exception of remembering the birth of Jesus. However, for children living in poverty, looking for food is still a daily struggle and there are no Christmas trees or gifts in their homes. But you can make a difference! In addition to the special celebration, just $35 can provide that special Christmas meal for their family and some gifts like new underwear, hygiene products, and a new outfit. Your sponsored child will have a day that is different from all the others, filled with joy and celebration. Let's make this Christmas special for them! Some of our sponsors are not able to give addition funds at Christmas so please help us make sure they all, as well as those on our waiting list can be blessed.

I was recently chatting with Bumba, who was one of our earliest sponsored children and now works for us in our sponsorship program, about what his Christmas was like as a young boy, before sponsorship.  Imagine waking up every day, not knowing the difference between a holiday and a regular day. This was Bumba's reality those many years ago. Despite the hardships he faced, Bumba's resilience and determination shone through. He would wake up early to collect water to bathe and search for food, sometimes settling for a mango or a raw sweet potato. With no underwear and minimal clothing, he tended to the animals barefooted, all while searching for dinner. Thanks to a caring and faithful God and generous sponsors, Bumba's life has changed for the better. Let's continue to spread joy and hope to those who need it most this holiday season.

I thought about his story of Christmas and how different it was from my childhood Christmas growing up in America. I would get up early, excited to go and look under the Christmas tree. The night before was hard to sleep thinking of the day ahead.  There

Christmas Already?

You might be wondering why we are talking about Christmas so early. Well, there are two reasons.

First, Katherine is in the U.S. and will be returning to Uganda in November. Because postage to Uganda is pretty costly and mailing time is long and unpredictable (3-6 weeks), Katherine makes room to take back Christmas cards from sponsors to their children. If you would like to do this, please send cards to our Littleton, CO address by November 17, about 7 weeks away. Please note that birthday cards and letters throughout the year should be mailed to our Uganda address. You may send some of these now for us to hand out later in the year if you would like.

Second, some sponsors like to send additional gifts directly to their kids in Uganda and need the lead time to get it in the mail. Please never send cash or checks to Uganda. We wish Katherine had more room to take extra gifts. Unfortunately, it is just not possible. We appreciate how much our sponsors care about the children they are sponsoring.

It is also helpful for us to receive Christmas donations a little early, just so that we can budget appropriately and not be rushed to shop too close to Christmas. It’s a lot of individual outfits to buy. Thank you, again, for your generosity during this season of celebration and giving.

Christmas!

would always be a lot of Christmas food and gifts for me and my brother as we celebrated Jesus’ birthday. It was the most exciting time for me as a child and I always loved Christmas.  There were Christmas lights everywhere and excitement in the air.

We couldn't be more thrilled to thank each and every one of our sponsors and others who have generously given to make a difference in the lives of the children of Kamonkoli. Your support has brought so much joy and hope to these children, and they will always cherish the memories of your kindness. You have shown them that they are loved and cared for, and that means the world to them. I pray for you all to have a blessed fall as it approaches. May the Lord bless you abundantly for your giving and faithful prayers, and we look forward to continuing this amazing journey together!

I love you all,

Katherine
