JOIN US FOR OUR WEEKLY CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS: 
  • Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Rhythm & Rhyme for 0-3s in the Junior Room and on Zoom. Masks will be required for anyone 3 and up. The staff will not be masked while presenting the program and the windows will be open.Links to livestreamed Zoom are available on our website calendar. 

  • Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. Lunch Bunch! Bring your lunch, listen to stories and enjoy a fun craft. Individual craft kits will be available. All ages. This event will be offered as a hybrid on Zoom or in person in the Junior Room of the Library. Numbers are limited and registration is required. Please register on our events calendar.

Monday, June 6 at 6:30 p.m. RESCHEDULED Writing Workshop and Reading with Gabi Coatsworth. Join us at the Library with Gabi Coatsworth as she discusses and reads from her new memoir and explains how to get started on your own. All writing levels are welcome. Gabi Coatsworth is an award-winning British-born writer and blogger. She’s active in the Connecticut writing community and runs several groups for writers (now all on Zoom), including a monthly open mic Meetup, and a monthly Writers Rendezvous, plus a weekly write-in for the Pequot Library in Southport. Her essays, short fiction, and poetry have been published in anthologies and literary journals, both in print and online. Her memoir, Love’s Journey Home, will be published on May 7, 2022. Thursday, June 9 at 3:30 p.m. D&D Adventures. Come adventuring with us! First time to D&D? Love the game? This one-shot campaign is suitable for all experience levels! Grades 5 and up only, please. We will be meeting in the Junior Room. Please call or email the Junior Room to register.

Thursday, June 9 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Spring Book Discussion Series. War, Peace, and In Between. This Spring we are covering the period from WWII up to the 1980s. Although the books for Spring date back to another century, the material may be more current than we would expect. This month's book is The Color Purple by Alice Walker. The discussion is conducted by Betty Krasne, PhD., writer, professor emerita, and longtime Kent resident. The KML book discussion is free and open to the public. On Zoom. Please call the Library to register.

Saturday, June 11 at 2:00 p.m. Workshop on Native Species as we Plant the Library Garden with the Kent Conservation Commission, the Kent Land Trust, and the Kent Sustainability Team. Come by for an afternoon of gardening fun! Members of the Kent Conservation Commission and the Kent Land Trust will join us for an afternoon of stories, discussion, and planting. We will be planting our raised bed Library Garden, with a focus on native species. Lend a hand this weekend, and throughout the summer as we grow our vegetables and flowers here at the Library. We will also plant sunflowers in to-go containers, to take home and plant in your own gardens! This event is cosponsored by the Kent Land Trust, Kent Conservation Commission, and Kent Sustainability Team. All ages are welcome to participate. We will be meeting in the Junior Room for stories before heading outside. Please call or email the Junior Room to register, or register online.

Thursday, June 16 at 1:15 p.m. FREE POPSICLES!  Come by the Library for a POPSICLE to celebrate the Last Day of School! We’d love to see your smiling summer vacation faces! All ages are welcome.
 
Saturday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m. Storytime and Craft. Join us while we read some stories about summer fun and then make a craft. All ages are welcome to participate. We will be meeting in the Junior Room. Please call or email the Junior Room to register.
 
Wednesday, June 22 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Summer Reading Program Kick-off Party and Summer Camp Sign-Up. Come by the Junior Room to learn more about the summer of Beyond the Beaten Path. Find out about all the events and activities the Library has to offer this summer! Pick up your first BINGO sheet, do a craft, have a snack, play some games, and let’s have some fun! Registration opens for Library Camp, for kids entering K-4th Grade (you must register for each individual week, space is limited). All ages are welcome to participate. We will be meeting in the Junior Room. Tuesday, June 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tween Summer Reading Rewards Kick-off Party with Dinner & Movie. Come find out about our Summer Program for Tweens, and the Rewards that await you! Bring your dinner and stay for a screening of Spiderman: No Way Home (rated PG-13). For kids entering Grades 5 and up only, please. We will be meeting in the Junior Room. Monday, June 27 at 3:00 p.m. Tween Cupcake Wars. Come show off your baking skills and win prizes! Bring 12 cupcakes ready to be iced, decorated, and judged by a panel of special guests. You’ll have 60 minutes to craft your masterpieces. The theme is Summer Fun! We will provide some decorating ingredients, but you do the rest. For kids entering Grades 5 and up only, please. We will be meeting in the backyard of the Library. All Summer Long: Book Buddies!
We will pair up tweens with younger students as reading partners. Meetings can take place in the Junior Room of the Library, at the convenience of both Buddies. We provide a location and the books, and you bring the fun! This experience is aimed at strengthening reading skills and self-confidence of elementary school students. All school age children are welcome to participate. We will be meeting in the Junior Room. Please call or email the Junior Room to register.
