Metroland to cease print publications of community newspapers including The Brock Citizen

We are saddened to hear that Metroland has decided to cease printing weekly editions of the Brock Citizen. Our deepest sympathy goes out to those impacted by the sudden job loss and we want to express our appreciation for the hard work and dedication you brought to local news.

We understand that this affects our residents who relied on the print edition of the newspaper for local news and events, but please note that you can still access the online version of the Brock Citizen on www.durhamregion.com every week.

The Township of Brock is dedicated to providing our residents with timely and accurate information on Township information, local news and events. We have a variety of outlets for this information – our website www.townshipofbrock.ca, our monthly e-newsletter, and our social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Learn how you can support Durham Region’s non-profit sector

Durham Region’s non-profit sector involves community agencies that provide important programs and services that support key issues impacting our community.

These agencies are experiencing declining donations following the pandemic and a volunteer shortage at a time when the demand for their services is increasing. Ongoing support can be provided to local non-profit agencies through donations of money or goods, volunteering time and expertise, and encouraging others to do the same. To learn how you can support, visit durham.ca/non-profits

Applications are open for the Building Safer Communities Grants Program

Durham Region has opened applications for the Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) Fund: Building Safer Communities Grants program to support small, not-for-profit organizations and community groups with violence prevention projects in Durham Region communities.

Successful applications will provide opportunities to vulnerable and at-risk children and youth in Durham Region and help steer them away from gun and gang violence, by addressing the underlying social conditions that give rise to crime.

More information on the grant program and how to apply is available at durham.ca/CSWB-Fund

Durham Greener Homes Program

Durham Region has continued to add new rebates to the Durham Greener Homes program to further help Durham residents achieve energy-efficient homes and reduce their carbon footprints. A Durham Heat Pump Rebate, offering up to $2,000 for heat pumps, has recently been launched to this effect.

Additional Deep Retrofit Rebates provide participating residents with up to $10,000 in incentives for reducing their home’s greenhouse gas emissions. These rebates may be combined with other incentives from Enbridge Gas and the Government of Canada, including the Home Efficiency Rebate Plus program.

When combined, upwards of $20,000 in cash rebates are available to Durham residents.
