Project Phases:

Our project work moves through a process that's broken into four phases: Defining, Planning, Execution and Completion. For detailed definitions of each project phase, go here

PLANNING PHASE

Langdon Shoreline Protection and Beach Access Project

A temporary* path providing access to Langdon Beach was completed in early September. In August, SmithGroup presented two final path design options developed in collaboration with accessibility consultants WT Group; at the September 11 Board of Park Commissioners Regular Meeting, the Board directed SmithGroup and Park District staff to move forward with Path Option Two (ORA2), as well as a detailed landscaping plan.

SmithGroup is now preparing engineering plans for the path, and a new contract to complete the design, permitting, and bid/construction documents. The contract will be ready for the Board’s consideration at the October 9 Regular Board Meeting.

PLANNING PHASE

Gillson Park Improvement Project

The Gillson Park Improvement Project work includes a landscape plan, roadway reconstruction, pathway improvements, sidewalk installation, utility rehabilitation and ADA accessibility additions.

Engineering plans for the project are nearly complete, and will be submitted to the Village and other regulatory bodies in coming weeks.

EXECUTION PHASE

West Park Platform Tennis Club Enhancements

The Platform Tennis Club work includes expansion of the paddle hut and addition of two new courts.

Mechanical, engineering, and plumbing work continues as planned. Court construction work and line painting is nearly complete: courts are anticipated to open for play the first week in October. Drywall installation in the warming hut is underway. All lights on the courts have been converted, landscape materials have been delivered and work is commencing on a new berm.

At the Tuesday, September 12 Wilmette Village Board meeting, Trustees approved a shortened time for league play and eliminated three “lookback” provisions (a way for the Village to check in on its requests). Lookback provisions for lighting, landscaping and parking were eliminated; the noise lookback remains, which includes a planned sound study. League play was shortened from 11 to 10:30 p.m. Non-league play continues to end at 10 p.m.

EXECUTION PHASE

Community Playfields Tennis and

Pickleball Courts

The work on the tennis and pickleball courts at Community Playfields is progressing. The asphalt work is complete and color coating is scheduled for the first week in October.

COMPLETION PHASE

Lakeview Center Renovation Project

Flooring on the main level of the Lakeview Center was installed improperly and is coming up in some areas. The Park District anticipates the floor will be replaced in full at no additional cost to the District.

Project Parks & Play: At the September 26 COW meeting, the Board received an update on the District’s strategic and comprehensive plan project. Consultants from BerryDunn will present details at the October 23 COW meeting.

Landscape plans for Lockerbie Park and Keay Nature Center, presented at the August 28 COW meeting, were approved at the September 11 Regular Board Meeting.

On Tuesday, September 26, members of the community attended the second Gillson Park Landscape Master Plan Open House to discuss the project's status and goals, and view design concepts. A second Gillson landscape survey opened on September 28, and remains open though Friday, October 6: let us know what you think! Take the survey here

44 trees have arrived and will be planted at seven parks across the District this fall.

The Park District's Sustainability Planning team recently opened a second-round survey; it remains open through Saturday, October 14. Take the survey here

Consideration of Wallace Bowl Renovation: The Ouilmette Foundation approved the hiring of a Fundraising Consultant to conduct a feasibility study, funded by the Foundation. The study will take 4-6 months once a consultant is selected; the Foundation is considering the proposals received.

Solar Panel Project at CRC: Contract language has been clarified and more accurate detail will be incorporated into the contract, which is anticipated to be available for consideration at the October 9 Regular Board Meeting.
