September 2022 Newsletter

Leadership Message

Greetings Supporters,

I hope that you’re enjoying the final weeks of Summer with Fall just around the corner.

I’d like to start by thanking everyone who sponsored, attended or volunteered at ACHIEVE’s 12th annual Savor the Summer on August 25th. After three years apart, it was a privilege to be back together with so many members of our community enjoying some of the best food and beverages our area has to offer. A very special thank you to the 35 restaurants, breweries and wineries who were in attendance to make the evening enjoyable for all. I’m so pleased to share that ACHIEVE raised more than $53,000 to support our underfunded programs! Again, we are truly humbled by the dedication of our community.

We now look ahead to our fourth and final signature event, the 4th annual

Half-K Classic – Walk & Roll, presented by NBT Bank, on Saturday, October 22nd in Norwich, New York. I invite you to join us and walk, run or ride in style 0.6 miles through downtown Norwich to the Northeast Classic Car Museum. Additional details can be found in this month’s newsletter.

I’m also thrilled to announce that ACHIEVE has been recertified for the third time by the Council on Quality and Leadership (CQL). This nationally recognized three-year accreditation equips organizations with valuable information and action steps for improving and providing the highest quality of person-centered care based on a week-long evaluation across all levels of ACHIEVE. I’d like to thank the staff members, individuals and family members who participated in the reaccreditation process with honesty and transparency as we continue our journey alongside those we support in recognizing the right of everyone to live their best, most fulfilling lives.

As always, thank you for your continued commitment to the individuals we support here at ACHIEVE, and have a wonderful month of September!

Best regards,

Amy

For over a decade, ACHIEVE has hosted Savor the Summer. This annual tasting event has grown to become a premier event in the Southern Tier, thanks to the restaurants, wineries and craft breweries who have supported us!

Presented by M&T Bank, Savor the Summer was conceived to not only be a fundraiser for ACHIEVE, but a way for us to invite friends and community members in to learn more about the agency and the incredible work we do everyday.

We were thrilled to bring back our 12th annual Savor the Summer after three years apart, and the elegant evening was a huge success!

Thanks to our corporate sponsors, attendees and vendors for making the event enjoyable for all!

Stained Glass Fun

We wanted to highlight a big project that our Day Habilitation program at Cutler Pond have been working on. The individuals and the staff have been very busy with painting stained glass windows across the facility.

Everyone spent a lot of time on them and were so excited to see the final product!

Don't they look AMAZING?!

Farmhouse Fun!

On the Pond has been busy visiting a local farm! They got to feed and pet the animals and explore all the farm had to offer!

As you can probably tell, they had a great time!

What's Cookin'?

At our Cutler Pond site, there was a terrific smell coming from the kitchen. Darlene had been busy whipping up some delicious banana bread!

Awesome job, Darlene! It looks DELICIOUS!

Fall's Coming!

With the Fall weather coming, and the Cider Mill re-opening for the season, what better time for our Recreation Respite Team to enjoy all the good things the Cider Mill has to offer?!

Volunteering at the

Ross Park Zoo!

Since it was a gorgeous day out, Anna, LynAnn, Tiffany, and their provider Tammie volunteered at the Ross Park Zoo!

With an increase in people going to the Zoo to see the Lantern Festival, they needed more helping hands, and these ladies jumped at the opportunity to pitch in!

Awesome job!

Fun with Science

Our Recreational Respite Road Trippers took a trip to the Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse. Everyone was able to learn and interact with all the exhibits there, while learning a lot in the process!

Thrill Seeking!

Chapin Street IRA went out and enjoyed some time at the Broome County Fair.

From riding the rides, to fishing for prizes, it's safe to say they had a blast!

Fun at Airport Inn

Our Recreational Respite Team sure has been busy!

After visits all over the community in August, it's felt appropriate for them to settle down and eat some good food and play some shuffleboard to relax. The team went to Airport Inn for Wing Night, and as you can tell, they had smiling faces and full bellies!

Game Time!

He shoots, he SCORES! Danny took advantage of the beautiful weather to shoot some hoops and get some fresh air with his Community Habilitation provider, Mauri!

Tioga County Fair

Excitement was brewing at Courtly Circle IRA!

When everyone heard the Tioga County Fair was coming to town, they knew they HAD to go out and participate in the fun. From the rides, to the animals, to the games, there was not a stone left unturned or a swing left unswung for our Courtly family!

Alexandria Bay Adventures

Andrea, Carol, and their Community Habilitation provider, Audrey, took an overnight trip to Alexandria Bay so they would have plenty of time to take in all the sights!

This trip brought out Andrea’s adventurous side and gave plenty of opportunities for Carol to practice her love of photography. While they were there they visited Kring Point State Park, Boldt Castle, and of course all the shops and local eateries the area has to offer!

Guardianship Picnic

Special thanks to Linda, our Guardianship Coordinator, and members of our James M. Hayes Guardianship Committee for hosting our annual Guardianship Picnic for participants earlier this week!

ACHIEVE's Guardianship program offers services to individuals who require assistance in making decisions or managing their affairs when other family members are not able to do so, utilizing the same consideration in decision-making as a caring family member when they are unable to provide that support to their loved ones.

And a huge thanks to Red & White Catering for the delicious lunch!

Stars in the Making

Take a peak at our Children's Summer Program Talent Show! It's hard to believe that the six-week program is already over, but the talents and skills on display were exceptional! Great job, everyone!

Started in 1952, ACHIEVE's Children's Summer Program was the first programming offered by ACHIEVE, created by ten families looking for educational opportunities for their children, and becoming the foundation for all the lives we impact today!

A Dog's Day Out!

It's always nice to help our furry friends!

Individuals and staff at Chenango Day Habilitation were at it again, putting together bags of cat and dog food for Helping Hands Norwich!

Raymond Corporation Appreciation Lunch

Following the difficult decision to cease operations last year at our manufacturing facility, CWS Packaging, we were approached by one of their first business partners when they opened nearly fifty years ago, The Raymond Corporation, about continuing that partnership by keeping one production line open.

Fast forward a few months, and this has been an incredibly successful business relationship for both ACHIEVE and Raymond!

Members of our Executive Leadership Team were #ACHIEVEProud to recognize the team behind this successful relationship and tour the site to learn more about the great work they've been doing!

Special thanks to the CWS team and to Raymond for seeing the value in continuing our longstanding partnership!

Planned Gifts to ACHIEVE

The ACHIEVE Foundation seeks to support ACHIEVE’s mission to improve the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The growth of the Foundation is determined by planned gifts from our community and family members. These gifts are the cornerstone of our Foundation and allow us to continue to offer a wide range of programs and services.

Every year, more donors are discovering the benefits of supporting ACHIEVE through their estate plans. These planned gifts are the cornerstones to the ACHIEVE Foundation and support the programs and services of our organization.
