The Update, Volunteering: SOAR365

VOLUNTEERS KEEP US LOOKING GOOD!

We’re grateful for enthusiastic volunteers from six local groups that joined us this past month to work outdoors at Camp Baker and PARK365: the Chester Civitan Club, Eaton Corporation, Publix, Hilb Group, Paymerang and Thalhimer.

“Our team was honored to volunteer at PARK365,” says Paula Reaves, a Hilb Group volunteer. “We know what fantastic work you do in our community, and we’re proud to have the opportunity to help maintain and improve this wonderful park. We look forward to the next volunteer event!”

Hilb Group’s 10-member team landscaped many garden beds, stained the stage area, and touched up the bridge. This effort gave a fresh look to these popular park features after a very busy summer. Along with the projects undertaken by other dedicated volunteer groups, these ongoing activities are critical for maintaining SOAR365’s excellent park and camp facilities.

Are you part of a corporate group, youth team or civic organization? You can roll up your sleeves and join in the fun by helping with landscaping, painting, cleaning, maintenance and construction projects. From mulching and weeding to planting and building, there’s so much to do at SOAR365! Opportunities for this fall are still available, so please send us an email at: volunteer@soar365.org to join us. Thank you!

MEET JOSIAS COLLIER: SOAR365 INTERN AND UR SPIDER

Josias Collier is a sophomore biology major at the University of Richmond, where he is working on a pre-medical school track. He volunteers at SOAR365 through U of R’s Bonner Scholars Program, which supports civic engagement by placing students in local organizations that focus on issues that each student feels most passionate about.

“For me, it was health care because my mother is in the health care world,” said Josias. “I hope to help people just like my mother does.”

NEXT GENERATION COUNCIL

SOAR365’s Next Generation Council is recruiting new members, and we want you to join! Hear from Caroline McClain about what makes NGC special.

The NGC works to support SOAR365’s mission of providing life-fulfilling opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Our members come from diverse backgrounds, and we all have our own reasons for joining the NGC. Mine is because I love the mission of the organization, and I wanted to help make an impact in the community where I live and work. Through leadership development, volunteer opportunities, engagement and fundraising, NGC members have the ability to grow professionally.

Interested in learning more? Come out and meet NGC members on October 26th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Brambly Park for our new member social. We hope to see you there!
