We’re settling into our school-year routine now, enjoying our variety of storytimes, book groups, and art programs for kids of all ages, but we also have some special programs to offer this month.
For our youngest patrons, we’ll have a lively Rockabye Beats concert – kids love this immersive music experience where they can sing, dance, play instruments, and learn a little Spanish (10/13 @ 10am, for ages infant-5).
We’ll also be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at our “Community Connections Storytime” with guest reader Sandy Almonte (from the city of Methuen’s Human Resources Department), where she’ll read some favorite stories to kids (10/11 @ 6:30pm, for ages 3-8).
October brings special Halloween programs, as well! On Friday the 13th, appropriately enough, we’ll have a “Haunted Woods” event, where kids can take a tour through our spooky woods and enjoy Halloween games and crafts. (Some parts of the program will be scarier than others, for kids who enjoy different levels of spookiness.)
And your littlest ones won’t want to miss our annual “Halloween Happenings” program – dress up your kids in their costumes, and bring them to the library for Halloween stories and trick-or-treating throughout the building! (10/31 @ 10am, for ages infant-5).
For older kids, teacher Lisa Buglione will lead a class where participants can give their Halloween pumpkins a little extra pizzazz by decorating them with glow-in-the-dark paint (10/27 @ 3pm, for ages 9-15); or maybe they’d like to make Franken-dolls, using pieces from multiple dolls and toys to make a creepy or cute creation (10/4 @ 3pm, for ages 10-13).
Last but not least, especially for parents of young children, we’ll hold another Parents Peer Group session. If you are a parent of a preschooler (infant-5 years old), you might enjoy this opportunity to connect with other adults whose kids are in that age range, to exchange ideas, information, stories, and advice. (Or just to chat about anything!) Come spend some time with your peers; we’ll have plenty of toys on hand to occupy your little ones while you enjoy some grown-up conversation.
Keep an eye on the Youth Services calendar and Facebook page to learn the latest about upcoming programs, fundraisers, and special events – there’s always something interesting going on!
Happy October, and Happy Reading!
