A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | |
June 16th, 2023
Dear Colleague,
Our June newsletter includes information about two important, upcoming webinars that are free for anyone to join. In the first webinar on June 26, leaders from LMIC institutions will share how to develop and strengthen partnerships between LMIC institutions. The second webinar on June 28, led by the African Forum for Research and Education in Health will examine how to strengthen training capabilities in LMICs in order to address growing deficits in their skilled workforce. Academic leaders, governments, INGOs and others are welcome to join these webinars. They will include a Q and A with the panelists.
Below are links to the taped sessions from CUGH2023 which concluded in April. Please share these recordings widely to broaden access to the knowledge shared during these sessions. Opening in July are the website and portal to receive panel suggestions and abstract proposals for our 2024 conference which will take place in Los Angeles, March 7 to 10th 2024.
Best wishes,

CUGH WEBINAR: BUILDING EFFECTIVE PARTNERSHIPS FOR DEVELOPMENT BETWEEN LOW-INCOME COUNTRIES
Building collaborations between low or low-middle-income countries is a neglected opportunity that can create durable outcomes that meet the needs of LLMICS. This panel of experts will share with the audience why these partnerships can be highly effective, the gaps that exist in creating them, their benefits, how they can be created and innovations in strengthening and retaining training capacity in LLMICS. This will be followed by a Q and A with the online audience. This is not to be missed!
Register for June 26th at 10 am ET

CROWDSOURCING RESEARCH QUESTIONS
We have a great opportunity to do a better job of connecting real world problems with research capabilities. CUGH has created this online tool to bridge that gap. We are inviting institutions, governments, NGOs, and companies to post funded research questions (high- or middle-income nations) or unfunded questions (low-income nations) on this site. Researchers interested in doing this work, especially those working on their Masters or PhD degrees are encouraged to contact the person listed in requests posted here.

GLOBAL HEALTH THREATS ARE ALSO ORAL HEALTH THREATS
In 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) put together a list of 10 health threats to highlight their dangers to the global community. The 10 threats were selected because of their potential to cause significant illness, death, societal disruption, and public health impact as well as considering their likelihood of occurring. Although not mentioned explicitly, all 10 of WHO’s global health threats are relevant for oral health and oral health care, directly or indirectly (Table). This article discusses three of these threats in more detail and how they are related to oral health.
