Advocacy Spotlight: Donny Wade, MD
Board Secretary, COA; Oncologist, Virginia Cancer Institute, Richmond, VA
Born and raised in Richmond, VA, Donny Wade, MD, always knew he wanted to give back to the community that shaped him. Becoming a community oncologist in his hometown was the best way to do that for him.
“I love the people, the culture, and the diversity of Richmond,” said Dr. Wade. “It’s incredible to provide cancer care to my neighbors and be so connected to them in their time of need.”
Practicing in an independent community oncology clinic like the Virginia Cancer Institute ensures Dr. Wade can treat his patients as the neighbors, friends, and community members they often are.
His close connection to patients drives his commitment to protecting community cancer care. With insights from his patients and the support of the Community Oncology Alliance, Dr. Wade routinely advocates to state and federal lawmakers to ensure patients continue to have access to the convenient, personal care that community oncology provides.
“No matter what our patients need, community oncology is always there for them,” Dr. Wade said. “Patients and our community know they can count on us, and that’s what makes advocating for them so important.”
