We've had a great start to summer at The Guild! This month, we honored student and adult achievements at our annual awards ceremonies. Guild staff were recognized at the State House for their success in launching the LEAD program. We also received a grant from the Flutie Foundation to support The Guild's Vocational Services department. Read on for more news from The Guild:

Guild Hosts Annual Awards Ceremonies This month, we had tons of fun at our annual awards ceremonies! We celebrated the incredible achievements students and adults have made over the past year. View the Facebook album here.

Students Enjoy Start to Summer! This June, students have been soaking up the sun with trips to the playground and field trips in the local community. Students have also had fun participating in music therapy classes and meeting furry friends during pet therapy sessions. View more photos here!

The Guild Receives Allison Keller Education Technology Grant We're excited to announce that The Guild for Human Services has received a $4,984 Allison Keller Education Technology grant from the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism! The grant will support The Guild's Vocational Services department in teaching students critical employment-based skills. Read more about how the grant will help The Guild fulfill its mission on our blog.

Parent Perspectives: Navigating the Transition to Adult Services The process of finding adult services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities can be challenging and filled with anxiety. To help folks prepare for this journey, we spoke to several parents with adult children at The Guild about their experience navigating the transition. The Guild to Open New Waltham II House for Adults We're excited to announce that The Guild will be opening a new residence for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in August! The new house, which will be located in Waltham, has several job openings available. View the open positions and apply on our website.

Guild Staff Receive Recognition at State House for LEAD Program Last month, The Massachusetts Nonprofit Network announced that The Guild for Human Services' Leadership Employee Advancement and Development (LEAD) program had been selected as a finalist for the 2023 Nonprofit Excellence Awards in the "Innovation" category! This month, Guild staff attended the awards ceremony at the State House and met with our state representatives, Rep. Simon Cataldo and Rep. Carmine Gentile. View more here.

Save-the-Date!: Flutie 5k to Take Place on Sunday, October 29th This year's Flutie 5k for Autism will take place on Sunday, October 29th at Boston College in Newton! All funds raised for this event will support The Guild's work. If you're interested in joining Team Guild and participating on race day, visit our team page to register. Guild Hosts Parent and Caregiver Breakfast This month, The Guild's Family Services department hosted a breakfast for Guild School parents and caregivers to build community, meet Guild staff, ask questions, and connect with each other. View more photos here!

Ask the Expert: The Benefits of Outdoor Exploration and Adventure Recent research has shown that getting outside can promote autonomy, community-building, and positivity for people with disabilities. Since 2020, The Guild’s adult program has partnered with Waypoint Adventure, a local nonprofit that uses experiential and adventure-based programs to transform the lives of individuals with disabilities and their communities. In our latest Ask the Expert edition, we sat down with Waypoint's Program Directors to discuss why increasing access to the outdoors is crucial. Read the article on our blog.
