Marching Lions off to a Strong Start

Linn-Mar hosted one of Iowa’s largest marching band festivals on Saturday, September 23rd with over 2,300 students performing at Linn-Mar Stadium.

The tremendous hospitality of our community was on full display.

 It was an outstanding day!

National Honor Society

Induction Ceremony

87 students with a GPA of 3.6 or higher are among the newest members invited to join the National Honor Society at Linn-Mar.

Superintendent Amy Kortemeyer was the keynote speaker at the event.

The inductees must have submitted a mission statement, and a resume focusing on leadership, volunteerism, and good character.

The NHS committee then selects members who qualify.

Wilkins "Sidelines the Staff"

Wilkins Elementary thought it would be exciting to bring a bit of fun to the morning dropoff car line. They invited members of the Linn-Mar football team to help the kids out of the cars and to the school entrance.

Staff members who usually perform car line duty were surprised when principal Amanda Potter "sidelined" them to tailgate curbside where donuts were served.

The young people were also a bit surprised to see the "big football players" but quickly warmed up to them with cheers and high-fives.

Wanted: Volunteers to Read!

The Encourage A Reader (EAR) program has been in the Linn Mar district since 1991 and will be continuing again this year in our elementary buildings.

This program places students with an approved volunteer to read with for 15-20 minutes on a weekly basis where they are provided additional literacy support or enrichment.

We've seen students make wonderful connections with these trained volunteers and watched them grow in their literacy development.

Our volunteer coordinators will be reaching out about these opportunities soon.

If you are not yet an approved volunteer, and this sounds like a program you'd be interested in assisting with, apply HERE to volunteer at Linn Mar.

Linn-Mar Celebrates 75 Years!

Historic Highlights:

Armstrong Field

Another chapter of our great district!

In 1962, Indian Creek Elementary was operating and the property purchased for that building was determined to be large enough for a football and track facility behind the school.

The first football game at the new stadium was played on September 18, 1962.

Unfortunately, Coggon defeated Linn-Mar 27 to 0.

In 1970 it was named Armstrong Field in honor of the volunteer team doctor who was killed in a plane crash.

The facility was upgraded over the years.

The track was reconstructed with an all-weather surface, the first of its kind in Iowa.

Due to frequent flooding from Indian Creek, the stadium was relocated to its present location in 2011.
