Seeking Another Book Lover

We are looking for a Free Little Library Librarian to help keep the Free Little Library in Cordata Park stocked.

The CNA Board will provide sources for the books, so you and your partner FLL Librarian work together to keep the boxes stocked and to monitor the condition of the boxes.

If you love books and would like to share that love of books with other readers, young and old, this is the opportunity for you.

Send an email HERE if you're interested in learning more about joining our FLL Librarian squad and becoming a Book Champion.

Thank You

WATER

Water quickly becomes a precious resource following many disasters. It is vital that all household members learn how to shut off the water at the main house valve so that you don’t lose clean water which you could use. Do you know where your valve is? Is it labeled so everyone ion your home knows?

Everyone needs water everyday! Your emergency planning should include one gallon per person per day for consumption, cooking, and hygiene. Store purified water in thoroughly cleaned, sealed containers, and replace it every six months. Don’t forget water for your house pets!

Plastic containers with a screw-cap lid, such as two-liter soda pop bottles or food-grade plastic jugs, work great for storing water. Don’t use glass bottles or old bleach bottles (or any contain-er that has held a toxic substance). Avoid the use of plastic milk jugs. (They are difficult to seal tightly, and their plastic becomes very fragile and brittle over time).

BOOKS, BOOKS, and more BOOKS

Our Free Little Libraries have been a great success. And now we are asking for a little help from you. Although we have had some generous donations from the Bellingham Public Library as well as individuals from the CNA Board and the larger community, we are finding it hard to stay on top of the demand. I am talking primarily about the children's box at Cordata Park.

From the moment we installed the FLL designed for kids in Cordata Park, the books have been flying out of the box. However, they aren't coming back in.

In case you are not familiar with the way a FLL works, it is designed as a book exchange rather than an unending source of free books. It seems like our parents and their kids aren't willing to part with their books, so it has been a one-way relationship. I fully understand that books are precious and sometimes it's hard for a child to be okay with trading in one of their favorite books for a new one. But maybe you could wrestle away a few of less precious books to put in the box.

We had hoped that in time the two-way exchange would start, much like we see with the adult books, but unfortunately that hasn't happened yet. In the meantime, we are looking for some help. If you have any books (adult or children's books) that you can part with, please let us know. EMAIL HERE Also, if you're at Value Village or Goodwill with a little time and loose change in your pocket, consider getting in touch with your inner child and browsing through the children's books. Goodwill sells all their children's books at a flat rate of less than $2 each and Value Village does as well, but if you're "senior" enough you can get a 30% discount on them at VV. Or, if you want to leave the shopping to someone else and just want to make a donation, use the "Donate" link below, but send an EMAIL HERE to let us know that you'd like your donation to be used for books.
