Welcome to Quilting News

October 2023

Message from Lisa

Welcome to October and a little cooler temperatures and pumpkin everything. I love to change out my quilts to fall and even better when I get to hang my Halloween Quilts. Time just gets faster from here till January. I'm looking forward to November and the Houston quilt Show. For now, the quilts are just rolling in fast. I appreciate all of my customers and the continued business that you bring to me. I appreciate all of the great comments that I get from each of you. As we approach the Christmas season, my deadline will be November 22nd to guarantee for Christmas.

Some of you may have heard, but we lost another quilt shop this month. My FAVORITE shoppe in Summersville, WV closed. I have been in touch with Vickie, and she decided to retire. She is still in the process of selling her inventory and I hope to be purchasing some. Will keep you posted.

Reminder that I will be away from November 1st through November 5th at the Houston Quilt Show. Thanks for understanding. Well I will keep this short and sweet.

Quilting ladies are the best friends you can have for life.

See you soon!

Lisa

Quilting Sisters

Learning and having a heart of giving is what this group is about. We constantly want to learn new things and be challenged at making our work better. But we also have a heart of giving to those who need it. We will be using the conference room at the Firehouse, 1956 Urbine Road, Powhatan, VA 23139. We start at 9 AM and sew until 1 PM.

Our next meeting is October 14th, starting at 9 am. At our last meeting we had a program on small projects and a sign-up sheet at each project. We are doing a three-yard challenge with our group. You may bring your project to our October meeting to share. We have donated a few of our finished projects to the Hawaii group. We will now be working on NICU quilts for the next two months. I will have a book of patterns at our next meeting to share with everyone. At our November meeting we will be honoring a Veteran and working on NICU quilts. If you If you have any show and tell for the group, we love to see your quilts that you have completed. We look forward to seeing everyone after a busy summer. Hello to Fall because it is right around the corner.

Future Projects:

October - Three Yard Challenge Quilts Show and Tell

November - Veterans Appreciation Day

December - Silent Auction & Breakfast

Wooly Friends Group

Welcome to a very new and special group of ladies. Our next meeting is Tuesday, October 17th. We will be working at the Studio that day. Bring a project that you are working on and a small snack to share. We have a great time in this group, and we love sharing all the different things with each other. Bring a project to show the group for a group project in November. We will vote on a project at our October meeting.

We are open to people to joining us any month. Please join our fun and exciting group of ladies. Hope to see you very soon!

Paper Piecing Tree Blocks

I have been asked by many to teach a small paper piecing project. So last year I worked on this small tree one that Kathleen Tracy put out on her site. So, I'm going to offer again two classes on this project, and I will provide you with the papers and you need. Bring your machine and your fabrics with you to this class. You will get taught how to put your fabrics together and make these little trees at our class. You can make as many as you want. A table runner is a great size to start with. So, gather your Christmas fabrics or any fabrics you want and sign up for this class. Cost $25.

Date: October 24th

Three Day Sew Retreat

Need a few extra days to sew away from your home? Well, you can sign up for a Monday-Wednesday full three days of sewing and leave your machine and projects while you go home and sleep. I'm going to give you a full table to work at so that is going to limit spaces. There will be only 13 spots at the 3-day sewing. You will hold your spot with payment of $15.00. Not refundable if you don't show. The doors will open each day at 9 am and close about 5:00 pm.

Date: November 13-15th.

SPOOKTACULAR

We will have Spooktacular on October 28th. Cost is $45 per person. You will get your collectors box with a pre-cut kit inside along with directions. This is such a fun event. Only 12 spots available and they go fast. So don't delay in getting your payment to me to hold your box. Space is limited and we start at 9 am and end about 4 pm. 4 spots left!

Thimble Creek Quilts "Ryokan" House

Do you have this Thimble Creek pattern called Ryokan? I 've had mine for a while. Great news! I decided to cut my stash of Civil War fabrics and you will get the 12 blocks in baggies along with the house fabrics to make this quilt. YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE THE PATTERN. (Quilter's Corner has the pattern if you need one.) You will make these blocks at your own pace. What makes it special is the way you will finish your quilt. You will need to provide your own fabric for the sashing and borders. Only 2 kits left!

Quilters Daycare Group
Quilter's Daycare is a Thursday sew group. Please make sure that you slide over and make room for everyone that wants to sew. We have an additional room that can hold only 4 sewers. We want everyone to feel welcome. We have missed many of you. Your $5 covers your seat charge each Thursday. See you soon! Reminder the door opens at 9 am, not earlier. (I'm with mom getting her up and ready for her day)
Future ideas for classes....

Prayers for many of our quilting sisters.....

Our quilting family needs lots of prayers right now. Excited to report that Lynah has finished her 14 treatments and had a quick vacation. She now will do the last injection. Please keep her in your prayers. Delma is home and doing really good I keep in touch with her several times a week. Jane Elbert is doing great since her back surgery. Still slow but moving around and sewing. Phyllis Green continues to wait for her knee to heal. Sitting still has not been easy for her. We have many husbands who are going through treatments or healing from procedures. Please keep many of our ladies in your prayers as some are caregivers and others just have unspoken request. Dear Lord, we have many in our quilting family that need your healing hand placed upon them to heal. Please touch each one and heal in your power. AMEN!

Thanks and see you soon!
Please bring a bag with your project that you are dropping off. Thanks!
Payment is accepted by Cash, Check, Venmo, Zelle and Paypal.
