Pray for Sri Lanka
Peaceful protestors who had been occupying the Galle Face protest site in Colombo were brutally assaulted in the early hours of Friday, July 22. The military assault came hours after the protesters withdrew from the camp in front of Temple Trees, the prime minister’s official residence. The protesters had already announced their intention to withdraw on July 22 and begun to do so.
Many who were onsite, including women and children, were assaulted and injured. Three journalists are said to be missing and were last seen being assaulted. The IT Center, The Disabled Soldiers Tent, The Hearing Impaired Tent, The Gate Zero Tent, and The Community Kitchen that fed hundreds of people every day for free have been destroyed completely. This is a critical time, so we urge you to please join us in prayer for the people of Sri Lanka. Roshan Mendis, ABFAid Director, shared the following:
We ask you to join us in prayer as the people of Sri Lanka stand at a crossroads, demanding a change in system and for their constitutional and democratic rights to be upheld. Despite the sense of foreboding, pray that people’s hearts be moved to unite and stand together courageously to fight against injustice. Pray that violence will cease. Pray that justice may prevail in this island nation, that God in His mercy will enable the nation to come out of the dire straits it is in. May the people of Sri Lanka know peace and comfort in these turbulent times.

Standing for Racial Justice
In collaboration with relevant BWA Commissions and a wider sets of key stakeholders, experts, and leaders, the BWA Racial Action Group has developed a statement entitled "Restorative Racial Justice: A Call to Flourishing Freedom" that was unanimously affirmed by the Executive Committee on July 9, 2022, and presented to the BWA General Council on Tuesday, July 12.
As we seek to follow justice and justice alone, our prayers of faith in Jesus Christ lead us to pursue intentional actions of repair and restoration, including in reparation. I encourage every Baptist to review this statement and to engage in prayerful action as we stand together for racial justice as a global family. A Prayer for Unity
O God,
the source of our belonging to one another,
none of us can give anything to our sisters and brothers
if we have not first of all belonged to you;
give us your Spirit in the bond of perfect unity
so that the Spirit may transform us into a new humanity,
free and united in your love,
through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who is God,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, world without end.
