CONSTRUCTION OF THE WEKIVA PARKWAY (SR 429) HAS BEEN COMPLETED!

After more than 30 years planning and dreaming, this project got off the ground with a partnership between the Central Florida Expressway Authority and the Florida Department of Transportation. These two agencies worked together to complete the beltway around Central Florida. In late January, state and local leaders celebrated the grand opening of the FDOT’s final section with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. During the event, Michelle Maikisch, Central Florida Expressway Authority’s Executive Director, shared that the project had been anticipated by the state's visionaries and recalled the origins of the idea. “Walt Disney himself, on a black-and-white TV, imagined the beltway around Orlando, back in the '60s," Maikisch said.

The Wekiva Parkway connects State Road 429, State Road 417 and Interstate 4, completing a 25-mile toll road that aims to ease traffic congestion in Orange, Lake, and Seminole counties while protecting the natural resources in the fragile Wekiva River Basin. CFX completed work on our sections in April of 2018. To learn more about the Wekiva Parkway’s legacy achievements visit: wekivaparkway.com

INSTALLATION OF NEW SIGNAGE UNDERWAY ON SR 417 AND SR 429

As part of the SR 417 and SR 429 Capacity Improvements, CFX is working on installing new signs along the corridors. While the construction team is working on the installation, please be aware of possible road and lane closures in the upcoming days. Sign installation on SR 417 is taking place from International Drive to SR 528 and on SR 429 from Tilden Road to State Road 414.

Sign work includes installing new overhead structures. Some of the new signs are also part of a state-of-the-art system that will accommodate the feature known as Flex Lanes. These innovative lanes use a wider median shoulder to allow traffic to continue flowing when an incident causes a closure in one or more of the right lanes.
