Cold Weather Tips for Your Home
Prosper Fire Rescue's Chief Shaw shares some important cold weather tips for your home. For residential flood emergencies, call 9-1-1.

Main shutoff in flowerbed:
The majority of homes will have their main shutoff valve in the front of their home in a flowerbed. It’s typically found in a green circular box.
Main shutoff in garage:
Most newer homes will have a main shut off valve located in the garage. These two shutoff valves are essential in disconnecting water to the home, should a water emergency, such as a water line break, happen.
Hose bib/Spigot:
Disconnecting you water hose will help to prevent the water from freezing inside your water hose and outdoor water faucet. Insulating the hose bib or spigot is important to prevent your water lines from freezing and being damaged.
How to Shut Off Your Irrigation System
Follow along with our Water Education Coordinator Tristan Cisco as she reviews how to turn your irrigation system off.

Irrigation Controller:
When temperatures are expected to be near or below freezing, it’s best to turn your irrigation controller to the off position. This will prevent your irrigation system from coming on causing hazardous situations and damaging plant life.
Double Check:
The double check will be located in a rectangular green box. Turning this valve to the off position will prevent water from going to you irrigation system. This is especially important if there is a leak or break in your irrigation system.
