Learning to Name Our Needs + Meet in the Middle

Learning to name and express our needs is one area that most people do not understand or acknowledge as part of what it means to be a healthy adult. We are human and therefore, we are needy beings.

We have needs and other people have needs — plain and simple. And as Lysa TerKeurst states so eloquently, “Boundaries help us walk in the middle.”

Learning to name, acknowledge, regulate, and meet our needs is important work. Are you having trouble processing and naming your needs? Find suggestions and resources to work through this in our newest blog!

Maslow’s Hierarchy Of Needs

A motivational theory in psychology, Maslow’s hierarchy is a five-tier model of human needs, often depicted as hierarchical levels within a pyramid (see image).

Maslow’s theory differs from more purely physiological representations of human motivation because it is seen as being not just concerned with tension reduction and survival but also with human growth and development.

Tools & Tips: Books About Our Needs

We all need more energy, the vitality that helps us stay motivated, focused and productive in life. We know we receive energy from good nutrition, along with working out, adequate sleep and maintaining positivity.

But there is another major source for the energy we need: having the right kinds of relationships with others.

Not the ones that drain us, but the ones that refuel us.

The book People Fuel shows how we need the fuel of “Relational Nutrients” from others, and, in turn we can then provide them to others.

Relationships are wonderful ... until they’re not. Is it unloving or selfish to set a boundary? And what does the Bible instruct us to do when a relationship is no longer safe or sustainable?

Lysa TerKeurst deeply understands these hard questions in the midst of relational struggles. But after thousands of hours of counseling intensives and extensive theological research, Lysa is committed to loving people well without losing the best of who she is.

She wants to help you do the same.

Client Sessions + Community Investment

Traci recently worked with Legacy Early College.

  • 197 CliftonStrengths results collected
  • 4 Teacher sessions (all faculty in Elementary, Middle, and High School)
  • 80 hours of prep work
  • 8 hours of training

All resulting in Legacy Early College's team being trained, prepped, and ready to use their Strengths to impact the next generation!

It's been an honor to partner with them over the past 6 years. These educators are doing powerful and life changing work.

Traci invited some of her “Great8” Greenville Chamber YP Pacesetters group to join her for the SC Women in Business Awards Luncheon hosted by Integrated Media Publishing.

It was an incredible opportunity for them to mix and mingle with talented leaders from across the state. The room was filled with powerful, strong, accomplished and inspiring women who are doing great things to move South Carolina forward.

Congrats again to all of Traci's fellow 2023 honorees! Let’s continue to lift one another up.

During August, Traci worked with Fellowship Greenville's Women’s Ministry Leaders

Fifty-five women gathered to study effective leadership, consider what it looks like for them to “win,” and decide how they can sharpen their talents to become the best version of themselves.

We ended with a “shout out session” where we thanked each other for the hard and messy work of caring for people.

Traci enjoyed writing, designing, and delivering custom retreat curriculum training material.
