Faculty Consultation Method Based on Still Photography

CAFE's April Dawn, former University Photographer, offers faculty consultations through black & white photographic essays. Recently, April visited Dr. Mónica Palomo, Professor of Civil Engineering, who is teaching CE 4201 Water and Wastewater Engineering. Dr. Palomo commented that, “All the details of the project designed so intentionally and artistically have shown me a different and positive lens of how learning happens in my classroom.”

If interested in a consultation for your class contact April for scheduling opportunities. She visits your class, takes a series of photographs, and presents her observations in a face-to-face conversation to discuss what the photographs reveal about your students and your classroom experience.

Office of Interdisciplinary Ethnic Studies Teaching and Scholarship (OIES) 2nd Annual Symposium!

We want to amplify the work of our close colleagues at OIES, a sibling organization that operates alongside CAFE in the Faculty Affairs group.

This year’s theme, “Transforming Higher Education through Ethnic Studies Praxis,” was inspired by last year’s inaugural symposium, where our guest speakers invited us to consider the possibilities of ethnic studies beyond a graduation requirement. More than 100 speakers and participants engaged in panels and discussions that explored ethnic studies, ethnic studies pedagogy, and the future of ethnic studies. Cherríe Moraga, professor of English, UC Santa Barbara, delivered the keynote, “What’s Missing in the Picture? (Re)visioning Ethnic Studies.”
