How Career Selection and the Leaky Pipeline Affect Women's Advancement

Despite women achieving a higher level education than men, only a few women hold top management positions. A recent study examined whether self-selection of careers according to prevailing gender norms or discrimination against women explain this disparity.

Close analysis of the leaky pipeline, the consistent decline in women’s share of positions when climbing the career ladder, revealed the higher family orientations of women in female-dominated study fields.

Learn the more nuanced takeaways of the study as presented by one of the authors. Its suggestions that discrimination against women today plays only a minor role and that quotas are no longer justified generated considerable controversy when it was published.

Bring your questions and anecdotes for a lively discussion. Following the presentation, share your perspectives with colleagues as you network over drinks and appetizers.
