5 CRUCIAL STEPS FOR ASYLUM SEEKERS

CHLDC is sharing this importance guidance from the New York Immigration Coalition and Make The Road New York.


With the upcoming change in leadership, it's crucial to take important steps now to protect your future. This month, here are the 5 key actions asylum seekers should consider before January 2025, based on Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project:


 1️⃣ Apply for your first work permit if you are eligible, even if you do not plan to work. 


 2️⃣ Apply to renew your work permit if you have a two-year work permit that will expire before 2028. 


3️⃣ Consider applying for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in addition to asylum, if you are eligible. 


4️⃣ Consider applying for another immigration status in addition to asylum, if you are eligible. 


5️⃣ Sign up for free Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP) membership to get urgent immigration updates.

Interested in a Career as a Union Carpenter? We're Recruiting for the Building Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program!


Participants who join the program will receive:

  • Career guidance and support.
  • An introduction to the apprenticeship process.
  • Worker health and safety training.
  • Environmental worker training.
  • Certifications in OSHA construction safety, scaffold awareness, and fall protection.


Eligibility Requirements:

  • A strong interest in a carpentry apprenticeship
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or HSE
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • English proficiency
  • Availability: February 3 - 28, 2025, for full-day sessions, Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
