Don’t Trust Area Code 801 Texts…

Scammers don’t just stick to phone calls or fake websites to trick you; they use texts too. Known as “smishing,” these text scams try to trick you into acting on an urgent financial matter. Many come from the area code “801,” but they can also come from a variety of other numbers.

Common fraud texts include ones saying your loan application is complete or your credit score dropped by a lot of points. The messages usually include a link, and the criminal steals your information if you tap the link.

Here are three tips to avoid becoming a smishing victim:

  1. Avoid clicking links sent by text (even if it looks like a text from AlliedFCU). Instead, contact AlliedFCU to verify the legitimacy of the text.
  2. Check the phone number and research it online. A quick search often reveals reports of scams connected to the number.
  3. Beware of messages trying to panic you. Take a moment to breathe and consider if someone wants to trick you.

We hope you stay safe with these tips. If you do become a scam victim, let us know as soon as possible.

AlliedFCU Kicks Off New Year with Kindness, Donates $300 to The Miracle League DFW

We recently donated $300 to The Miracle League DFW. This is a great organization which provides children and young adults the opportunity to play baseball regardless of their abilities. The Miracle League removes barriers that prevent children with mental and physical disabilities from experiencing team sports. Even the turf they play on is specially designed to accommodate wheelchairs and other other devices. We love supporting local organizations that help everyone feel included.
