THE SUNDAY OF THE PASSION

PALM SUNDAY

March 24, 2024

Dear George,

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, Canon Frank prepared a moving Celtic Mass for our 9am and 10:15am Liturgies, and our kitchen team turned out quite a St. Patrick's Day Feast! There won't be many Fifth Sundays in Lent such as we observed March 17, 2024!

I informed the community of the death of our beloved Stephen C. Clark this past week. His date of birth was December 21, 1951 - March 13, 2024. I had inaccurately mistyped "1931" rather than 1951 as his birth year. We have no news from the family regarding funeral arrangements.

Monday March 18 the campus will be closed as Mexico observes the birth date of Benito Juarez.

I thought I was unique in having no Megacable internet at my house this week, but heard from many throughout San Miguel who have not had service. Some who have heard more news than I have mentioned that there had been outages throughout the world on a variety of servers. Such news, accurate or not, put me in mind of an okay movie I recently saw called "The Last of Us."

David Burton, knowing I am a fan of the Sci Fi "Dune" series by Frank Herbert asked if I had seen "Dune Two" recently in theaters and what I thought of it. I saw it in English with Spanish subtitles at Cineplex at Liverpool and thought it was true to the book and extremely good. So, if you are a 'Dune' buff and have three hours to dedicate, it may lighten the Lenten load.

I will be away March 19 - 23 to preside the funeral of my beloved Aunt Sally McGrew in Los Altos, who died recently at the age of 98. Canon Frank will preside the Sunday of the Passion in English, and Father Miguel in Spanish.

The Senior Warden will preside at Vestry Friday March 22 at 10am in the Parish Hall.

The San Miguel Chorale with Malcolm Halladay will present the 7 Last Words (see below) at the Tercer Orden next to Iglesia San Francisco at Noon March 30 on the newly installed organ to which many have contributed. Brad and Michelle mentioned today that a great many Mexicans have joined the Chorale, so this should be a fine community event. The Great Vigil at St Paul's commences that evening at 7pm.

May a Holy Lent be yours, and ours together,

GFW+

THE DANI FUND

The Dani fund was established 13 years ago, when Dani was first born and brought to St. Paul’s by Papa Daniel. The fund was used to support Dani with diapers, formula and whatever he needed. As a toddler, he went to live with Claudia and Bruce Stuart, though they were unable to adopt him until recently. The Dani fund has been used to help with Dani’s schooling and medical needs. This is still the case, especially in light of Claudia’s death 6 months ago and Bruce’s cancer diagnosis. Dani attends Bereshit Christian School. The fund pays his tuition, textbooks and uniform costs, as well as his medical needs. He has seen a therapist for grief, which the fund also pays for. This has been a rough year for Dani and the fund helps provide him with the stability of a school he likes and therapy to help deal with the changes occurring in his life.

If you have been paying into the Dani fund, either as a one time gift or monthly, thank you. If you are interested in helping, please contact Bonnie Eriksmoen at deriksmoen@aol.com. Your donation is appreciated.

Canon Frank may be contacted at fnhebert@gmail.com

Educafe

is one of St. Paul's Community Development Projects. Educafe.org is a Mexican not-for profit raising educational funds from the sale of coffee grown in Oaxaca and Veracruz. Each bag is priced at 200 pesos, of which 87 pesos goes to a project of your selection. The QR code on the back of each bag allows you to select the project of your choice, a few of which support St. Paul's Community Development Project. Parishioner Geoffrey Drayton leads this effort, and welcomes all questions.

ST PAUL'S BEREAVEMENT GROUPS: Martha Hamill, thanatologist and bereavement counselor, leads groups in English and in Spanish. The pain of loss can be overwhelming, but there are healthy ways to learn to cope and heal. The groups are free of charge and occur in the conference room Tuesdays 4 - 5:30pm in Spanish and 5:30 - 6:30pm in English. The group is suspended until January 2024.

WOMEN'S SPIRITUALITY GROUP

Meetings are generally the first Saturday of each month at 10AM - 11:30 in the parish Church.

Saturday Breakfast Group -

The Saturday 9:30 breakfast group meets at Ataño Cuatro HERE

The next Book Club meeting will be on March 14th at a later time: 11:00 a.m. This new time works best for the group so this will be permanent. The book we will

discuss is The Red Tent by Anita Diamante. The narrator is

Dinah, the only daughter of Jacob and Leah. Dinah is briefly mentioned in

the book of Genesis. The story describes the traditions and turmoil of

womanhood in ancient times and has been a favorite novel of readers and book

groups for years. The author is an award-winning journalist who has

written several books on contemporary Jewish life. The group will be led

by Chris Durboraw who is a Vestry member and a well-read Book Club member

herself.  Susan Robinson sporterrobinson@gmail.com
