Week 52 - 250 Year Anniversary...

As we begin 2025, we also begin celebrations for two branches of our armed forces. The Navy and Marine Corps will both be celebrating their respective formations in 1775. The Navy has a slate of events planned throughout the year to commemorate their history and legacy of protecting the United States on the seas from the very beginnings of our nation. The Marine Corps is also planning on commemorating 250 years of of honorable service around the globe answering the call whenever and wherever they have been needed to serve.

One of the largest celebrations is going to be called Homecoming 250 and will be held in Philadelphia in the fall. Here are some of preliminary details:

Homecoming 250 is planning spectacular celebrations

for the Navy and Marine Corps’ 250th!

In Fall 2025, Homecoming 250™ will celebrate the Navy and Marine Corps 250th birthdays with unique signature events on both banks of the Delaware River:

  • We will celebrate the Navy and Marine Corps 250th with an unprecedented display of Navy ships from the American Revolution to today, including ships important to the Marine Corps, which you can tour on the Delaware River starting on October 9, 2025.

  • We will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Navy's founding on October 13, 1775, which a ceremony outside its Independence Hall birthplace and an area-wide flyover by the Blue Angels.

  • We will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Marine Corps' founding on November 10, 1775, by holding the 100th Marine Corps Birthday Ball in the same Philadelphia ballroom where General Lejeune held the 1st Marine Corps Birthday Ball 100 years before. We are also planning a party to toast the dedication of The Tun, a permanent recreated tavern that is the birthplace of the Marines, that will attract Sailors, Marines, and all citizens for years to come.

  • We will hold commemorations near Independence Hall and Congress Hall where the Navy and Marine Corps were created, and host parades, concerts, demonstrations, exhibits, reenactments, veterans gatherings, and other great events to give the Navy and Marine Corps the 250th celebration they deserve!

These celebrations will shine an early spotlight on the birthplace of our Nation, honor the Navy and the Marine Corps, salute the men and women of all backgrounds who have defended America and the world for 250 years, inspire our youth, and remind us of what unites us.

The Passing of Former President Carter

We also recognize the recent passing of Former President and retired naval officer James (Jimmy) Carter at age 100. Here is a statement from the Secretary of the Navy about his passing.

Statement by Secretary of the Navy, Carlos Del Toro:

“On behalf of our Sailors, Marines, and Department of the Navy Civilians, I express my deepest condolences to the Carter Family for the loss of a respected public servant, committed family man and devoted American.

President Carter will always be remembered for his dedication to the greater good, from his early days in the U.S. Navy, to his terms in office as the 76th Governor of Georgia and 39th President of the United States, to his continued philanthropy and volunteer activities.

In October, I announced that the future Virginia-class submarine (SSN-813) will be named USS Atlanta during a ceremony at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. His legacy lives on through Seawolf-class submarine USS Jimmy Carter (SSN 23), the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum in Atlanta, and his countless incentives focused on improving the quality of life for people across the globe. His legacy will also shine where his naval career started in Annapolis, where I had the privilege of renaming an academic building at the United States Naval Academy in honor of President Carter.

President Carter's servant leadership and enduring commitment to the well-being of others will continue to inspire me and others around the world.

My wife Betty and I extend our deepest condolences to their children Amy, Jack, Donnel and James; their grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and the entire Carter Family during this time of grieving.”

We here at Brookhurst Hobbies extend our sincere condolences to the entire Carter family and recognize his devoted lifetime of service to our nation.

The Model

NEW DECALS SHEET FOR 3 VERSIONS (British, New Zealand, Australia)

FULL COLOR INSTRUCTION SHEET

Throughout the 1930s, a series of production agreements were established for the manufacture, by the Canadian subsidiaries of major American automobile manufacturers, of a line of trucks designed to meet the transport needs of British troops and the principal countries of the Commonwealth. Production was significantly increased during World War II, and the “Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) trucks” accompanied Commonwealth troops on major European fronts, from the North African campaign, to the invasion of Sicily, to the Normandy landing. Robust, reliable, and particularly effective in operational use, they were produced in numerous configurations and with various roles, from military logistics to artillery towing. The CWT 15 version, with four-wheel drive and good load capacity, was particularly appreciated.

The Vehicle

Canadian Military Pattern (CMP) General Service trucks were among the workhorses of the Canadian Army during WWII. It was able to carry 15 hundredweight (approx. ¾ ton) of personnel or cargo.

Ford and Chevrolet both produced this type of vehicle during the war. Each company used their own engine, transmission and axle assemblies, but the basic vehicles were the same, allowing for interchangeable parts for repairs and maintenance.

Its four-wheel drive and short wheelbase made it a very maneuverable and fast vehicle.

CMPs were used by Commonwealth forces during and after WWII. Many were given as assistance to war-ravaged countries where some remained in service into the 1990s.

Maximum Speed: 74 km/h (46 mph)

History

The Sd.Kfz. 250/1 Ausf. A (Special Purpose Vehicle 250/1 Version A) was a light armored half-track used by the German Wehrmacht during World War II. It was part of the Sd.Kfz. 250 vehicle family and was characterized in the Ausf. A version by its sloped armor plates, offering additional protection against enemy fire.

The vehicle was primarily used for transporting small infantry groups, reconnaissance missions, or as a towing vehicle for light artillery. It could carry two crew members and up to four infantrymen. Equipped with a Maybach HL 42 TRKM engine, it achieved a top speed of about 60 km/h. Its armament usually consisted of one or two MG 34 or MG 42 machine guns, effective against enemy infantry and lightly armored vehicles.

Its light weight, tracks for off-road terrain, and relatively high mobility made the Sd.Kfz. 250/1 a valuable asset to German forces, particularly in armored reconnaissance and mechanized infantry divisions.

Warlord: Saga of the Storm looks to prove that old is new in its March 31, 2025 launch!

Warlord: Saga of the Storm ensures electrifying gameplay with back and forth turn actions, captures the magic of tabletop roleplaying with D20 usage, and challenges players with its boss battle organized play system.

During deckbuilding, players have endless options for customization as they choose from four classes and six factions after acquiring cards from randomized booster packs. The first set – Into the Accordlands – features over 340 unique cards with hand painted art from industry greats. Choose your Warlord, assemble your starting army, upgrade your deck, expand your collection, and charge headfirst into the Accordlands!

Each 50-card deck is led by a Warlord with one or more classes, a faction, and unique abilities, as well as a fully customizable starting army. From there, players draw cards, roll for initiative, and take back and forth turn actions as they deploy characters, equip items, and perform attacks and spells. As characters are killed, armies crumble and Warlords fall ever closer to the first rank where they are vulnerable to opposing forces. Warlords may prefer to sit back and support their army, sling powerful offensive spells, equip a full set of battle gear, or even rush headfirst into the fray. While victory is the only destination, there are too many paths to list.
