March 2024 Equine Newsletter
Hello All,
Well, things have been busy here at home since our last newsletter. Been home the whole time, except for one short trip to New Jersey, where almost no one I met said “New Joisey”. Or “Toin left at East toity-foist and toid”. And contrary to Hollywood stereotypes, everyone was REALLY FRIENDLY! Take that, Hollywood!
Apart from our usual business of helping you keep your horses healthy and happy you may have noticed there’s been a lot of activity lately in the horses-helping-humans arena. Last month Instructors Lise Lunde and Megan Dushin flew to the UK to teach their first Masterson Method Equine Specialist course at the Fortune Centre for Riding Therapy. If any of you are familiar with Martin Clunes of the Doc Martin BBC series, keep scrolling…
We also had our recent collaboration with Horses4Heroes in Las Vegas, NV.
Enough about last month - although I’m willing to bet that last month’s news will lead to more news in the future. I was inspired by a recent conversation with Dana Croschere’s and Krisanna Sexton‘s documentary project on horses healing humans. You can find more about them here: www.livewildfilms.com
| |
In the arena of competition, if you want to call Endurance an arena, MMCPs Kalin Finsand and MJ Fridley attended the AERC Convention in New Mexico last month. Kalin’s written a blog along with some great photos that you’ll find below. Kalin, BTW, Is also one of our new Masterson Method Canine Instructors… but that’s another newsletter : )
Enough about what’s going on this month. Let’s talk about cyber-space. I’ve recently become a little hooked on Instagram, which I’m trying to stop. Stop being hooked, not stopping Instagram. Anyways I often “like” the horse stuff. But “reels” or whatever they’re called, keep popping up, with me and a horse in them, saying interesting things. Which makes me suspicious of the internet. Which makes me think… I don’t know about what, but at least it’s making me think. If I could just remember, I’d be doing ok. Anyways, the moral is, don’t believe everything you see on the internet.
Oh yeah, I remember where I was going with this. Some of the reels that came up brought up memories - of the past kind – with horses. I came across one from about ten years ago with our horse Primo, who you may have seen in some of the Light to the Core video clips.
| |
I then started looking through older photos at home and came across these taken at our pond about 10 years ago.
Primo is now also in the past but I thought I’d leave you with some of them here.

I see grass that looks good!
Until next month,
Enjoy,
Jim

MMCP Demonstration in Japan
MMCP Asako Miyajima sent this update on a recent demo...
The 6th Horse Messe was held from February 10th to 12th, 2024, at Setagaya Horse Park in Tokyo. I had a lecture and demonstration of the Masterson Method® on February 10th with Rocky (pony).
More than 70 people participated, and everyone was fascinated by the reactions like chewing and sighing of the pony. Many people said that they are waiting for Jim to come to Japan.
The Japanese version of BHM is also selling well, and the number of copies prepared seems to have sold out. I am confident that MM will become more popular in Japan than ever before.

Masterson Method Equine Specialist (MMES) Program News
MMES Course in New Forest, UK Testimonial
Fortune College, part of the Fortune Centre for Riding Therapy, is a specialist college for young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities aged 16-25. The college’s Further Education Through Horsemanship (FETH) Course offers an educational residential/day programme, working with horses, that prepares young people with learning disabilities to live as independently as possible and participate in their local community. The college provides the opportunity to achieve accredited qualifications, develop communication skills, independent living skills, self confidence and skills for working life.
| |
Hosting the MMES Course at Fortune College was a real pleasure, we had a great dynamic and mix of knowledge provided by all the attendees. Really big thank you to our instructors and mentors Lise Lunde, Megan Dushin traveling from the US, Vicky Devlin for coordinating, putting up with my nagging to bring the course to the UK and thanks to assisting MMCPs Alex Gaché and Cathy Koetsier. The programme was delivered at a suitable pace with a blended approach to learning. Both theory and practical, balanced nicely with time to process, reflect and discuss one another’s findings and outcomes working with the bladder meridian. The horses were wonderful characters and each presented with their individual releases, intuitively this felt like we all were ‘giving back to the horse’. Trigger the mechanical horse was not so responsive but provided plenty of team building and fun all the same! 😆 🏇

About the Masterson Method Equine Specialist Program
The Masterson Method Equine Specialist specializes in sharing specific light touch Masterson Method techniques with persons served in equine-assisted learning and therapy programs. By doing this bodywork on horses, participants deepen their connection with horses while also gaining self-awareness and self-regulation skills; meanwhile, therapy horses are tended to through simple bodywork and learn a new way of relating to people. It's a win/win!
Questions? Visit the Masterson Method Equine Specialist Page or contact the Program Coordinator at mmes@mastersonmethod.com.

Tammy Risseeuw, MMCP
Sheboygan, Wisconsin
I love the Masterson Method® for the energetic connection it requires between the horse and me. Putting the pieces of their communication together and being a voice for the horse to improve how they feel and perform is so rewarding.
| | |
Nikola Paszkowski, MMCP
Zeuthen, Brandenburg, Germany
With years of experience working with horses, the Masterson Method® is the heart of my therapeutic offering in Berlin and Poznań. This gentle, interactive form of touch allows me to achieve a special level of communication with the horses and stimulate their self-healing powers.
| | |
Rosie Lewin, MMCP
High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire,
United Kingdom
Rosie’s love of horses started at a young age, back when children could spend their weekends helping-out at a riding stable from dawn to dusk, for the happy exchange of a free ride. Life then got in the way until, like many, she was drawn back to the horse world as an adult, riding regularly, helping look after a friend’s horse, then sharing her own.
| | |
SarahJane Ford, MMCP
Cheshire, United Kingdom
SarahJane has been passionate about, and dedicated to, horses for over twenty five years. She has enjoyed, during that time, sport with horses in eventing and show jumping; the process of breeding and bringing up young stock; and thoroughly enjoyed a period grooming for an international event rider.
| | |
Newly Certified Equine Specialists
Our Certified Equine Specialists have worked through an abbreviated certification program designed to be accessible and relevant for equine-assisted services (EAS) professionals and volunteers. The MMES can volunteer to offer simple bodywork to EAS horses and/or partner with their EAS program to co-facilitate a new equine-assisted learning activity, such as the Bladder Meridian Technique, as a means for participants to “give back to the horse” while also creating connection.

Rachael Loucks, MMES
Westboro, Wisconsin
Rachael is the director and founder of UP THERE, LLC and Operation Horses Heal, two equine-assisted learning programs which serve communities in Wisconsin and surrounding states.
| | |
Kelly Brown, MMES
Cliffside, North Carolina
Horses have always been a part of my life. My dad was a horse trader and so I was constantly riding a new horse. When I was 8 I asked my dad to buy me a horse that I could keep for my own. We purchased a 10 month old dun filly and I fell in love.
