Dear Inverness Residents,
As we come together this weekend in celebrating our nation’s Independence Day, let us commemorate our nation’s value of liberty, justice, and equality. We extend our gratitude to the dedicated men and women, who tirelessly contribute every single day in safeguarding our nation, protecting our freedom, and serve their communities.
On behalf of the Village of Inverness, I wish everyone a wonderful and safe 4th of July!
Happy Independence Day.

Solicitors Knocking on Your Door?
If You’ve Posted a Sign, Call 911 to Report It
|
|
The Inverness Police Department has recently received an increasing number of complaints from local residents regarding door-to-door solicitors in the area.
To avoid the annoyance caused by salespeople or canvassers and enable the police to take appropriate action against them, it is recommended to display a sign stating "Canvassers, Solicitors, and Peddlers Forbidden" near your front door. If a solicitor still knocks or rings the doorbell despite the presence of the sign, calling 911 will prompt an Inverness police officer to respond. Both Federal and State court rulings have supported the notion that door-to-door solicitation is permissible unless a "no solicitors" sign is visibly displayed.
In the upcoming months, the Village plans to update its ordinance pertaining to canvassers, solicitors, and peddlers. The aim is to enhance the registration requirements in order to safeguard the privacy of residents, prevent fraudulent activities, and deter crime.
Local government ordinances that regulate solicitors must be carefully crafted to only address the legitimate concerns of the community and should not restrict a substantial number of non-commercial door-to-door canvassers. Furthermore, these regulations cannot have the unintended consequence of prohibiting any speech protected by the First Amendment.
“Canvassers, Solicitors and Peddlers Forbidden” placards are available free at charge at Village Hall or the Police Department or email us at [email protected].

As the Fourth of July approaches and our community gears up to celebrate Independence Day, the Village of Inverness wants to emphasize the potential hazards associated with fireworks. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there were roughly 11,500 injuries in 2021 involving fireworks.
Residents are reminded that the discharging of fireworks, including firecrackers, bottle rockets, and roman candles are not allowed in Illinois under the Pyrotechnic Use Act, 425 ILCS 35/., and Village ordinances. In general, fireworks that require a lit wick, explode, or shoot into the air are considered illegal in Illinois. Novelty fireworks, such as snakes, sparklers, and party-poppers are not regulated by the state.
For your own safety and to avoid any potential injuries, it is strongly advised to leave the fireworks displays to professionals.
