Hello Sue,
I looked back at June 2021's VHSA newsletter to see what I wrote a year ago. Here's a one-sentence excerpt: "As of June 28th, there have been 28 fatalities, which is more than any year since 2017 at this same point in the year." It's frightening that we've surpassed that awful statistic. As of June 20, 2022, there have been 38 fatalities across the state, 18 of which were unbelted. The weekly data report is certainly sobering and cringe-worthy.
VHSA and its partners continue to strive for zero deaths through advocacy and education. We'll be demonstrating seat belt safety at several events this summer with the rollover vehicle, culminating with the end-of-summer 10-day Champlain Valley Fair. If you're at the fair, please stop by the North Building or volunteer a few hours to staff the booth. More on that below.
Meanwhile, enjoy your summer. I saw a road sign today that said, "summers are memories waiting to happen". The perfect sentiment for the first week of the season.
