May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Each year, millions of people both young and old face the reality of dealing with mental illness. According to recent estimates from Johns Hopkins, one in four US adults  (26%) experience mental illness each year. Countless children are also affected.

There are many factors that can contribute to mental health issues including nutritional deficiencies, poor sleeping habits, chronic stress, and physical inactivity to name a few. I'm very thankful to have one of the most gifted and experienced Mental Health Professionals as my dear friend. Janean has been my "Mental Health True North" for many years, meaning I can always count on her and trust her guidance completely when life gets hard and mental struggles come knocking. She has expanded my knowledge base and inspired me to be  more understanding and compassionate to those dealing with mental health challenges.

As many of you are aware, I'm currently pursuing certification as an Integrative Medicine and Nutrition Practitioner for Mental Health.  This fusion of disciplines will allow me to more holistically help others.

The last 2 years have been a fertile ground for anxiety, social withdrawal, despondency and depression. The stigma surrounding mental health disorders leads to many people hiding their struggles, suffering in silence and not getting the help they need.

This month I want to join in on the national movement of raising awareness and offering solutions through targeted homeopathic remedies for mood enhancement and nutrition based programs.

Brain Health Support Program

(Plant Based version is available)

7 DAYS - 16 RECIPES

A program designed to support and improve brain health and mental wellness.

Food can change your Brain.

Did you know that healthy diets promote hippocampal growth and volume, the area of the brain involved in Mental Health?

My Brain Health Support Program was developed using the MIND diet framework, which is a combination of the Mediterranean and DASH eating patterns. The MIND diet has been attributed to improved cognitive thinking and slowing the progression of neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's and promote a more balance state of mind by lowering inflammation and providing lots of nutrients.

This program emphasizes foods shown to support a healthy brain. Each day includes at least three servings of whole grains, green leafy vegetables and one other vegetable. Nuts and beans are included every other day, berries at least twice a week, and olive oil is the primary oil used.
