Bright eyes, eager smiles, styled hair, laser light backgrounds, and the anticipation of wowing your friends and family with your best yearbook photo yet. Truly a day when you can be all you can brie!

School Safety Drill Update

All schools in the state of Minnesota are required to practice safety drills during the year:

5 Evacuation (fire) | 5 Lockdown | 1 Severe Weather

These student safety drills are preceded by classroom instruction for students. This summer all building principals participated in a day of training around school safety drills. We will put this training into practice at our first evacuation drill next week. When planning for drills we will always inform staff and students of the days/times so they can talk with their students about the procedures and why they are practiced. Our teachers do a fabulous job of preparing students for our practice sessions in a calm and caring way. As the year goes on, we will continue to have school safety drills for evacuation, lockdown and severe weather.

DROP-OFF + PICK-UP

Here are a few important notes about morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up from the circle driveway in front of Door 10 (the Normandale main door.)

  • This circle driveway is for quick drop-offs and pick-ups only. If your student(s) need assistance getting in or out of your vehicle, please use the designated spots in the parking lot and walk them up to the sidewalk.
  • Do not exit your vehicle during drop-off and pick-up.
  • Pull as far forward in the circle as you can while dropping off or picking up student(s).
  • Please follow the traffic arrows and navigators to safely enter the circle from the outside lanes of the lot.
  • Exit the circle as quickly and efficiently as possible. If you need to check your phone or take care of other tasks, move to the parking lot so you are not blocking the flow of traffic behind you.

SCHOOL MENU UPDATES

Beginning on July 1, 2023, Edina has joined the Minnesota Free School Meals Program. All students are eligible to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day. If your student wants to receive a second lunch, an individual milk without a complete meal, or any other of our a-la-carte options, students will need to pay for these items through money in their lunch account. Although no application is required to receive the free meal benefit, filling out the Application for Educational Benefits is still important as it can provide other benefits to your student and helps the school qualify for education funds.

Breakfast and lunch menus are linked at the bottom of this newsletter

INTERN INTROS

AUDREY RIGOBERT

Kindergarten – Sirot

Hi there! I am Audrey, I'm 23 and from a beautiful lake, Annecy in the French Alps. I grew up there with my parents and my older sister. I graduated college in Lyon last year in English language and primary school teaching. I'm trying to balance working life and traveling life. I already studied in Brighton, UK and worked in a school in Pondicherry, India. I love discovering new cultures through immersion. I read a lot, take long walks in nature, go to the gym, bake and cook. Simple things make me happy.

Favorite Foods: I have been vegetarian for several years now but my favorite food is probably pizza and Italian food in general. I do have a sweet tooth so I'm always up for dessert especially if it involves chocolate.

In The US: I want to have a real taste of American culture and hope I'll be able to travel a bit in different states with the other interns and make my parents come for Christmas (NY, Cali, Louisiana, Texas,

Florida...), maybe I'll join a friend in Winnipeg, Canada and Monterrey,

Mexico. My ultimate goal is to spend

the last month of my Visa in Hawaii

with my sister.

I hope that this cultural exchange between France and Minnesota/America will lead to many nice surprises and life-long memories.
