August 16th - Business After 5 at 5 Roads Brewing

Join other Richmond Chamber of Commerce members for a fun and light-hearted networking event with our hosts, 5 Roads Brewing! Located in the beautiful Steveston Village, 5 Roads Brewing offers delicious locally made beer and food items. Join us on their patio on August 16th to try out Richmond's latest arrival on the craft brewing scene!

This Members-Only event is complimentary as always but advanced registration is required. Due to high demand and limited space, members will be limited to three tickets per organization.

B.C. Jobs Minister Announced $1.5M Support Package to help Small Business Owners Grow Online Platforms

B.C.’s Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation paid a visit to Richmond to announce a support package for small businesses in the province.

The Honourable Ravi Kahlon said more than 2,000 small businesses will be able to apply for a share of the $1.5 million in the Digital Marketing Bootcamp program. The program is intended to help small businesses hone their online skills.

Funding is available for all kinds of small businesses and the program is particularly valuable to owners who have brick-and-mortar businesses but lack an online presence.

August's Member Story: Loulou Lollipop

This month's member story features Loulou Lollipop.

Loulou Lollipop is the brainchild of two ambitious twin sisters, Eleanor & Angel. As a mother of a teething baby, Eleanor searched the internet for a minimalistic and fashionable teething toy that doubled as an accessory for her but was unable to find it. After discussing the problem with her twin sister, Angel, they decided to make a toy of their own. Thus, creating Loulou Lollipop.

Telus is Committing $1M to Empower Canadian Businesses

Own a business that deserves a boost? Apply for a chance to receive $25,000 in funding, advertising, and technology.

The application is open to all small business owners who are residents of Canada and have reached the age of majority according to the laws of the Province where they reside.

For-profit (including individual franchisee owners), not-for-profit and social enterprises are eligible to apply, however government organizations, municipalities and the chamber of commerce network are not considered eligible.

The #StandWithOwners application period ends at 11:59 EDT on September 18, 2022. Winners will be selected throughout the contest period – see “Winner selection criteria” section for dates and number of winners.

City of Richmond Launched MyBusiness, a Self-Service Portal

New and existing Richmond businesses can now apply, update and renew their licences online.

The City of Richmond launched a self-service portal called MyBusiness. Business owners can access the portal by logging on to MyRichmond and identifying their licence needs, whether to apply for a new licence or to renew or modify an existing one.

The addition of MyBusiness to the MyRichmond portal is part of the city's digital strategy to make Richmond functions available online through a single system.

Share Your Thoughts with the BC Government

The Province is inviting employees and employers to submit their views via a survey about whether the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation (September 30) should be designated a provincial statutory holiday under the Employment Standards Act, starting in 2023.

The survey can be found here and is open until September 21, 2022: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation | govTogetherBC

That National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a federal statutory holiday which commemorates the history and legacy of the residential school system, honours the resilience, dignity and strength of survivors, and remembers the children that never came home.
