September is National Preparedness Month, and we're highlighting the importance of protecting yourself and your loved ones during a disaster or emergency.

Emergencies can happen without warning, and it’s more important than ever to have a plan. Here are a few ideas you can use to stay prepared for an emergency:

• Create an emergency preparedness kit with non-perishable food and water, flashlights, radios with extra batteries, and a first aid kit.

• Learn your evacuation routes, and ensure your kids and other family members know essential phone numbers to call in an emergency.

• Take a selfie with your pet and keep it in your phone if you get separated.

• Sign up for emergency alerts at moval.org/alert or rivcoready.org/alert-rivco to stay informed during a disaster or emergency.
