Welcome to the spring edition of The Innovation Edge where we bring to you exciting updates from CEWIT about the rapidly evolving world of technological and social innovations. Here we highlight some of our projects and programs which are driving innovation through collaboration, facilitating commercialization and entrepreneurship, and cultivating the next-generation workforce.
CEWIT continues to expand its outreach to businesses across New York State and beyond. Our “Partner in Tech” featured below is Syracuse-based SRC Inc which develops solutions for the defenses, environment, and intelligence industries. With our shared focus on AI and cybersecurity, CEWIT and SRC are working together to pursue opportunities for collaboration and engage students in innovation projects. SRC was a major sponsor for our 8th annual Hack@CEWIT, a 3-day hackathon for college students who spent an entire weekend at CEWIT to collaborate, ideate, and innovate.
In addition to hosting visits by students and teachers from high schools and middle schools, CEWIT organized our first ever High School Hackathon through a partnership with high schools across Long Island. We thank our partners Intelibs, Softheon, and Sunrise Technology, all located in the CEWIT Building, for supporting this impactful event.
Collaborating with industry and academic partners, CEWIT’s researchers and engineers are developing AI-driven innovations to address challenges in critical areas, such as healthcare/medicine, energy/sustainability/climate, and defense/security. One of these projects, a collaboration with RedShred, is featured below. As part of the U.S. Air Force’s digital transformation program, the AIRMATE project leverages advances in document AI and Large Language Models (LLM) to extract model-based digital artifacts directly from legacy documentation.
CEWIT organized visits and meetings with U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), other government agencies, and many companies as part of our outreach and engagement with key stakeholders to develop AI-enabled solutions in the defense and security sector. I had the pleasure to participate in two panel discussions at the Long Island Artificial Intelligence Conference on April 3, which brought together more than 400 industry participants to explore the latest trends and advancements in AI.
CEWIT is also engaged in multiple AI initiatives in Energy/Sustainability/Climate. We are hosting Stony Brook University students participating in the New York Climate Exchange’s AI Innovation Challenge, which is a multi-university program focused on developing coastal and urban stormwater management solutions.
We encourage you to partner with us. The possibilities are limitless and the future shines bright. Together, we will go far beyond!
