Week 2 Highlights:

July 17th, 10:00 AM EDT:

Power and Practice of the Mantra - Swami Ritavan Bharati
Through the aeons of time, the Himalayan Tradition has been a pathway for the flow of mantra.
From teacher to student, mantras are imparted as a key part of practice just as the Rishis
provided. Let us look into the variety of practices and the power mantra contains to guide the
student.
Swami Ritavan Bharati, MS, E-RYT-500, Ashram Pramukha and Spiritual Guide has lived a life dedicated to serving Swami Rama and Swami Veda Bharati since 1970. After having been initiated at the age of 20, he transited through all the three Ashrams of Vedic life (Brahmacharya, Grihastha, and Vanaprastha) under the direct guidance of Swami Rama and Swami Veda Bharati. He was then initiated into Sanyasa in 2007. He has guided numerous silence and meditation retreats throughout the world and has been instrumental in guiding the International HYT-TTP. He is also a Mantra Initiator within the Tradition of the Himalayan Masters.
July 19th, 8:30 PM EDT

Malas: Type and Usage - Rabindra Sahu
Using a string of beads (Maala) as a spiritual tool to increase focus and stay present during Japa/prayer is found in virtually every cultural and religious practice. Even though there are traditional types and usage of Maalas, they are as unique as the people who use them. In this session, we will try to explore the different types of Maalas and learn how to use them for deepening our spiritual practice.
Rabindra Sahu is a teacher in the Himalayan Yoga Tradition, based at Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama (SRSG) ashram, Rishikesh. Introduced to the Indian philosophy at an early age, Rabindra has been teaching at SRSG and traveling within India and overseas for outreach programs for many years. He is deeply devoted to study of ancient scriptures and believes in experiential understanding.
July 21st, 8:30 PM EDT:

Spanda and Levels of Initiation (Anava, Shakta, Shambhava) - Pt. Stephen “Stoma” Parker
In this session, Stoma will describe layers of practice in our tradition from the perspective of Kashmir Shaivism. The three levels of practice, the upayas, roughly parallel the three prescriptions of practice in Patanjali's Yoga-sutras. Each of these levels has its own experiential component of initiation. Most students of the Himalayan Tradition are familiar with the term shakti-pata, which is usually described as a feature of the shakta-upaya. There are aspects of initiation, the direct induction of a higher experience, in the other upayas as well.
Stephen (Stoma) Parker Psy. D., E-RYT 500: Stoma is a Sanskrit scholar and a leading teacher of yoga and meditation under Swami Ritavan. He is a licensed psychologist with a private practice in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is an adjunct assistant professor at Saint Mary's University and at the University of St. Thomas School of Professional Psychology. Stoma has lectured throughout the world on yoga and he serves as a senior instructor for the Himalayan Yoga Tradition - Teacher Training Program (HYT-TTP).
July 23rd, 10:00 AM EDT:
