BikeMaine Weekend Rider August Newsletter #1
This is the sixth and second-to-last edition of your monthly BikeMaine Weekend Rider Newsletter with updates, reminders, and stories to get you in the spirit! Detailed check-in information and full schedule still to follow!
Route Files Have Arrived!
At long last, route maps are here! Each day has a long and a short route to choose from, which you can mix and match however you like! We ask that you check in at the Info Tent daily to inform us which option you choose so our support vehicles know how many riders are on each route.

Each route has one rest stop, and you will also see points of interest (POIs) that include turnouts, beaches, and alternative food options along the way. (Spoiler: There's a LOT of ice cream along the routes!) Breakfast and dinner are provided in the Village, but you are on your own for lunch.

You may choose to bring additional food items with you on the route, which you can carry in your gear drop bags. These bags will be given to you during check-in, and you can use them to carry anything you might want with you, and offload them at the rest stop to pick up at the Info Tent later in the day.

The routes are fully marked with signs and road paint, and we'll have support vehicles as well, but you can also access the route files throughout the event on Ride with GPS Experiences. This is also where you'll find information like daily schedules and any last-minute updates. All of this information will be available at the Info Tent, but if you want, follow the instructions in the link below to access routes and info with the Ride with GPS app.
As a bonus, for the first time in BikeMaine history, we are also sharing some gravel grinds in the area! We will be leading guided rides of the 14.6-mile loop, but you may also do them at your leisure in place of a daily road ride or as an afternoon activity. (Note that the gravel rides are not supported by SAG vehicles or rest stops, and we recommend bringing a gravel bike with you.)
COVID-19 Policies
After three long years, we are very thankful to be able to bring back community meals and camping in 2022. In order to continue to do this and make it a safe event, we are requiring all riders, volunteers, and staff to show their COVID-19 vaccination cards—or a negative test from a provider within the past 48 hours—at the time they check-in.

Additionally, even if you are vaccinated, we ask that you consider taking an at-home test before coming to the event to safeguard against breakthrough and asymptomatic cases, and consider bringing a test with you in case symptoms begin during the event. For our part, we'll be testing prior to the event, and we will also be implementing the following precautions during the Weekend:

  • Most of the event will take place outdoors
  • Breakfast and dinner service lines will be outside
  • All meals will be in an open-air dining tent
  • Masking (masks will be provided) is required while in line at the buffets
  • Masking is required while indoors at the school for bathrooms and shower lines
  • Pre-registration for some indoor afternoon activities
  • Single-use, compostable cutlery and food dishes

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!
Check-in Reminder
There are only two weeks left until The Weekend! Our next (and last) newsletter will have a full daily schedule, as well as more detailed parking and check-in information, but for now, here are some key things to know:

Thursday, August 25

  • Check-in is open from 5 - 8 p.m. at Cobb Field in Lincoln.

  • Parking for the Weekend is free. We ask that everyone drop their things off at Cobb Field, park their car, then return to check in. More detailed check-in directions and a map to the parking lot will be in the next newsletter.

  • The Maine Beer Company Beer Garden will be open from 5 - 9 p.m. in Prince Thomas Park.

  • Dinner is on your own—you are welcome to bring take-out or a picnic to the beer garden!

  • Mechanics are available from 5 - 8 p.m, courtesy of the Katahdin Gear Library staff. Please check your bike thoroughly and make sure it is in good working order before arriving.

  • Quiet hours are 10 p.m. - 5:30 a.m.

Friday, August 26

  • Check-in is open from 6:30 - 9:00 a.m. All riders are still asked to make a quick stop at the Info Tent each day before heading out on the routes, so we know which route you are on.

There's Still Time to Buy Beer Cards
Riders can pre-purchase beer cards, each good for five pours of Maine Beer Company beer.

Each pre-paid card costs $25 (that's $1 off each beer!) and is valid August 25-27, 2022. Purchase yours between now and August 18 to have it ready for you during check-in.

We'll also have wine by donation from Cycles Gladiator. Alcohol consumption in the BikeMaine Weekend Village is restricted to the Beer & Wine Garden (no BYOB).

Our most outstanding achievement will be that everyone who joins the Coalition or attends our events will feel respected and valued.
