Wendell Foster care recipient Blakely rocked the stage at the McLean County Fair Pageant, where she won the Tiny Tot 4-year-old division!
"She has a hard time in new environments with different noises so we are extremely proud of her for trying something new,” said Jaclyn Owens, Blakely's mom. “She loves getting dressed up and when people tell her she’s pretty. I competed in pageants growing up, so I was excited to share this experience with her!”
Blakely has been coming to Wendell Foster for two years and currently receives occupational and speech therapy. "We want to make sure to give Blakely the same opportunities every kid her age has. Even if that means completely stepping out of our comfort zone, and loading up every piece of equipment she may need. She’s teaching others about the importance of inclusion for people with disabilities," said Owens.
Blakely's favorite part about competing in the pageant was receiving her first trophy and being dressed up. If you see her around, make sure to refer to her as Princess Blakely — that's what she prefers to be called since her big win! Congratulations, Blakely. Your Wendell Foster family is so proud of you!
